I would suggest continuing to ask here at different times on different days
(maybe GD, too) in the hopes that someone who DOES know her will see
the post.
.
.
.
Maybe Skinner -- I really do think I remember seeing something from SOME
level of the administration here (it might have been an explanation for why
one of her posts got locked) about how it might not really be her who was
posting under that name (at least for that post).

NOTE: I'M GRATEFUL FOR SKINNER'S INTERVENTION AND AGREE WITH HIM
ABOUT SELF-DELETING. I'M DELETING THE REST OF MY POSTS IN THIS
THREAD -- THESE FIRST TWO WERE VALID ANSWERS TO THE OP AND NOT
PART OF ANY "DIVERSION".

(24,857 posts)MFM's initial input about the person posing as Alien Girl was legitimate, given the OP's question, "Where is Alien Girl?" There is no hijacking of this thread on his part; I'm not getting the hostility toward him.
I'm not part of any clique on DU or Facebook, so I'm completely in the dark if there are any personal dynamics at work here. I'm offering my objective opinion.
The "look at what you've done" addressed to MFM is completely undeserved. The thread was hijacked the moment a finger was pointed at MFM, & it continued as MFM defended himself, followed by yet another accusation, despite the continued comments of "concern" that MFM's initial comment was "shameful".
Would everyone please think about the impression being made here? It looks to me like some are using AlienGirl's very sad situation as an opportunity to air their personal gripes. If it were up to me, this thread would be deleted altogether.

(20,176 posts)While it is true that AG's account may have been compromised at one time and the admins commented upon it, there is no doubt or question that she actually has cancer (or should be. I've spoken to people who know AG IRL who have confirmed that she has oral cancer. So that settles that.) or that we all wish her to get well. Thus the questions in this subthread are largely-moot. Whether or not the account was hijacked, AG was in-control of it when she announced the return of her cancer.
The recap, for clarification: AG's account was seemingly compromised briefly and some posts were made that she likely did not author. The situation was addressed, the posts were scrubbed and she regained her account. The entire incident lasted less than 24 hours. All of that happened well before her cancer returned. She subsequently posted about the return of her cancer including a link to an article about her including her real name.
We're going to err on the side of decency and assume honest intentions. I'm going to assume everybody wants AG to get well.
This is a thread wishing well-being and recovery to a fellow Lounger. Please respect that. Thank you. You'd want to receive the same respect in your well-wishes thread if you were seriously ill or injured.

(56,829 posts)this OP was a question about AlienGirl, and there are some wishing her well in it. The derailment over someone actually replying to the OP is unfortunate, but it was not technically a typical call for vibes type thread like the one started by Lyric http://www.democraticunderground.com/10186576

I've searched for news and there has been nothing. I hope that is good news.
If that was not her, I wonder about the woman who was the focus of the article. http://www.tampabay.com/news/politics/local/article1189089.ece

(17,302 posts)Alien Girl says to tell you there haven't been any big changes.
She's got four more rounds of chemotherapy ahead and then the oncologist will assess her progress.
Right now, she's resting a lot, and trying to keep her weight up.
She has a wonderful caregiver who wants me to let you know that she is (AlienGirl) so pleased to know that so many here care about and are thinking of her.
Keep those good vibes heading her way. If you're so inclined keep her in your prayers.
thanks.

(63,645 posts)Now, the community has the tools it needs to effectively deal with disruptors.
If someone is disrupting a thread, my advice is to send an alert on the post (or posts) as a Community Standards violation. If the jury chooses to hide a post, then the person who posted it will be blocked out of the thread forever. In addition, the person who posts such things would get blocked from starting a new thread in this forum for one hour.
In addition, the person who posts such things can get a clue and realize how bad it looks and self-delete. (Hint, hint.)
I also hope AlienGirl does not see this. But if she does, I think she will understand that ugly posts are a reflection on the person who posted them, not on her.

(63,645 posts)Replies should be handled by sending alerts to Juries. If one post is hidden, then the offending party is permanently blocked out of the thread.

(56,829 posts)you have only been a member since October of this year and have 2 whole posts, yet this strange flame war got going here after a post and attack on one member in some other threads, by a the same old bunch that has been doing that for quite a while and here they are doing it again.
It almost looks like flame bait. What inspired you to inquire about AlienGirl and how in the world did you even know about her? I suppose you might have seen others asking about her, but then your concern for someone you theoretically have had no actual interaction with on DU seems a little odd to me.
If I am mistaken and your concern is genuine, I do apologize. I barely know her myself, though I happened to be one of the first replies to one of her last posts because it touched me deeply, so I can understand the possibility of a connection. I remain suspicious due to the results of this thread.
