The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support Forumswell .. I am starting to walk my baby toward the rainbow bridge
she is "only" 15
chow / lab cross
not eating will still drink some when she does eat she vomits
very unsteady on her feet,
shaky, walks very stiff just alot
of difficulty in moving.
been to the vet, got some anti nausea meds
which helps with the vomiting, and she will eat
alittle. will give her meds a chance, if she still
isn't eating or not eating much, Monday
I will probably take her to the vet
and come back alone, Vet sez she isn't in pain
my heart is breaking.
Kind of hope she goes in her sleep.
I have 4 friends waiting for me there,
soon will be 5.
Lucky, Curly, Charlie Brown, Abby, Sally, and soon Shelly
I am sooo going to get mugged when I get there.

(3,919 posts)my girls - 17 & 16 years, respectively. it was time. life wasn't fun for them anymore. the yellow lab was so fiercely loyal she just didn't want to go even though her tumor was huge and she couldn't shit properly. the queensland was old and tire and she was ready.
sniff.sniff.
it isn't easy, littlewolf - but it is freeing for our beloved companions.

(6,012 posts)15 is a good lifespan for a medium-large dog. I so wish dogs had longer lives, though!
Does she look like this chow-lab?

Lady was 17
I was only 15
So she was part of my life from day 1.
Lady never bit nor growled at anyone - it was funny to watch her chase a rabbit across the yard because she would "hop" just like the rabbit.
I remember her last days as she had to drag her back end around - back legs didn't work anymore.
We moved the year my father had her put down. Wise my father was, had her put down during the move - when we arrived at our new home, Lady just wasn't there.
But I can still see her, 45 years later as I type.
Bought a new home (my first) recently.
I'm gonna get me a dawg, female -
And you got it right - -
"Lady" is the name.

the right thing. after I heal a little
there will be another little furball I know
and I will house em ... feed em.... love em .. spoil em
and travel thru life with em.

(Haig, an English bulldog)
Ive changed my ways a little; I cannot now
Run with you in the evenings along the shore,
Except in a kind of dream; and you, if you dream a moment,
You see me there.
So leave awhile the paw-marks on the front door
Where I used to scratch to go out or in,
And youd soon open; leave on the kitchen floor
The marks of my drinking-pan.
I cannot lie by your fire as I used to do
On the warm stone,
Nor at the foot of your bed; no, all the nights through
I lie alone.
But your kind thought has laid me less than six feet
Outside your window where firelight so often plays,
And where you sit to read- and I fear often grieving for me-
Every night your lamplight lies on my place.
You, man and woman, live so long, it is hard
To think of you ever dying.
A little dog would get tired, living so long.
I hope that when you are lying
Under the ground like me your lives will appear
As good and joyful as mine.
No, dears, thats too much hope: you are not so well cared for
As I have been.
And never have known the passionate undivided
Fidelities that I knew.
Your minds are perhaps too active, too many-sided .
But to me you were true.
You were never masters, but friends. I was your friend.
I loved you well, and was loved. Deep love endures
To the end and far past the end. If this is my end,
I am not lonely. I am not afraid. I am still yours.

(3,813 posts)the last thing she heard was me telling her she was a good dog
and she is loved, and me petting her. I am still crying.
but like I said in a few months we will have another furball
to spoil, and love, and laugh over.
and so it goes.

(35,015 posts)I've done it too and I know your heart is breaking. I am crying now remembering my Ellie, who I walked to the bridge 3 years ago. I was with her in the end, talking to her and petting her just as you did with your baby. She was a terrier/chow mutt and added to much joy to my life.
Take care.
