And look up a lot more. In these days, he'd be huge. Back then, he was stuck on the "negro circuit", getting paid next to nothing, working clubs in the south. He had some success with albums, but it was very limited.

But I really recommend listening to all his routines. Redd Foxx managed to make it out of that circuit, but he was a rarity. They were comics who deserved better.

Another one was LaWanda Page - we know her as Aunt Esther on Sanford & Son. But she was also a "filthy" comedian. And funny as hell.
