... (leaves ME out) would think that ALL Southerners say "haid" for "head", but name
me two other U.S. location-based accents where you would hear that substitution.

(edit to add): In the Army, I spent 3 years in Germany followed by three years on
the Kentucky/Tennessee border. When I'd go home, my family would tease me
about the faint accents I had picked up from both places by saying, "ACH, y'all!!

(60,159 posts)I always laff at movies when characters try so hard to do "a" southern accent,
not realizing there are many versions of how people talk down here, and inflection is just as important as pronunciation.
