adjective \ə-ˈvəŋ-kyə-lər\
: like an uncle : kind or friendly like an uncle
Basically, I'm looking for someone who exhibits the persona of that uncle you always saw at Thanksgiving, who always told corny jokes or funny stories but you appreciated that as part of his charm. And at the end of the night, he slipped you $20 dollars and told you to go buy something you like.
The name for me that immediately comes to mind is Joe Biden.

Another that comes to mind is MLB broadcaster Jon Miller. Any San Francisco Giant fan (or Baltimore Orioles fan during the 80s and 90s) knows what I'm talking about:

Edgar Buchanan practiced oral surgery in his home state of Oregon and then moved to Calif. His interest in amateur theater led to going to Hollywood, over 100 movies and a hit sit-com, "Petticoat Junction".
One of my faves too.
