leaf fall

I stand under the forest at the start of leave fall watching as each part falls heading back from which it came, but seeing each for the first time. In their height at the top, they stood waving at the world, as though laughing at the smallness of those below, encouraging some to struggle to match them in their success, but being as a group, a togetherness so tight that no one stood out from the other each necessary to fill the space and reason to exist. I marvel at their short existence and absolute essentialness of their lives. I understand and pet the cat.
