Was talking with friends about Coffee. Some like it black, some with sugar, or creamer or both. Someone suggested that most people prefer it black.. with nothing added. Lets find out!

(8,492 posts)I don't see an option for Chai, anyway.
yuiyoshida
(42,273 posts)It falls under the tea category. See the posts below!

(12,132 posts)but I loved Half and half even better - but I only ever had that when visiting my Dad. For some reason I was too cheap to buy it for my coffee.
Sadly, Dad is long gone and so is my ability to have sugar so I just drink it black. I have discovered, though, since switching to black, that milk/cream and sugar covered up a multitude of sins in coffee.
yuiyoshida
(42,273 posts)He asked for 5 packets of sugar. Said he loved to have coffee with his sugar in the morning. (I guess so!!)
OriginalGeek
(12,132 posts)coffee, tea, cereal, etc...
probably why I'm not allowed to have it now.
5 packs sounds about right. For a small cuppa.
dr.strangelove
(4,851 posts)not milk and sugar. It should be black, bitter and HOT (like my wife). She is so kicking my butt for that comment!
Seriously though, I don't like anything in my coffee except ice on a hot day, and then it needs a shot of espresso.

(42,273 posts)In Japan, green tea is known as Ocha. (O' makes it honorable, so the honorable tea) Teas from China in Japan are called Kocha. Mostly brown teas. I believe in Korea and China tea is know simple as Cha. For example, Oolong cha. Pu Erh Cha. In India you have Chai...which kinda looks like Cha...with an "i" at the end. In Vietnamese...Tea is trà and Che.. which looks like Cha. In Thailand the word for tea is also Cha. In Cambodian, the word for tea ..is simply Te. In Tiebet the word for tea is ja..which looks like Cha. In Laos the word for tea is Saa...which again sounds a bit like Cha. In Bangladesh the word for tea is Cha.

(29,414 posts)I was only referencing how Americans confuse things and then add part of the definition onto the original word as if they can't remember that little bit! Such as ATM machine.
I have a recipe at home for chai, given to me by someone that had worked at a yoga center. An India woman made chai every day for the center, so that's probably why my recipe makes two-gallons at a time
Let me see if I can remember it, as I haven't made it in a long while.
2 bags of green tea
2 bags of oolong tea
three sticks of cinnamon
1-inch of fresh ginger root
40 peppercorns
30 clove buds
20 cardamom pods
8-qts of filtered water
Brew tea in the water and discard bags.
Simmer remaining ingredients for two hours over low heat.
Makes 8-qts.

(42,273 posts)I once found a simple recipe for Thai tea...if I can find it, I will post in this thread, k?
kentauros
(29,414 posts)I've never made my own Thai Tea and I would like to have that knowledge
The chai recipe I posted is adjustable to your tastes, too. I sometimes experiment, such as putting in more peppercorns or more cardamom (a favorite flavor and scent.)

Now, there's always Long Island Tea, too

(29,414 posts)My favorite glass-straw manufacturer makes straws for bubble tea, though, so I might have to order one and find a place in town that serves it. I do like tapioca, so I might like it
yuiyoshida
(42,273 posts)The places that sell Bubble Tea, always has a line out in front. People love this tea...My favorite is TARO.
tjwmason
(14,819 posts)It's also the Russian name for tea - чай (chai).
My Russian teacher suggested that might also be the source of an English slang word for tea: char.

(42,273 posts)I have heard that Splenda is popular too.. I wonder if anyone ever uses soy milk, Rice Dream or Almond dream instead of creamer..
Graybeard
(6,996 posts)Soy, Rice or Almond milks are very good used cold. I can't recall which of those substitutes I tried but I found that it curdled in my coffee (not very appetizing).
It's been Lactaid for me due to my Lactose intolerance and it's just fine in all my cooking, etc.

(42,273 posts)Can not do a lot of cheese, or ice cream. I enjoy sherberts better.. but if I do have ice cream, its usually in the form of a float, something that breaks up the ice cream a bit..
