The national anthem.

Would you rather sing it or watch the local pop artist deliver their personal 'interpretation' at your major public events. Watching the World Series and pretty much all televised sports events, it seems like a different song every night. Must say though, those four guys doing game 6, aced it.....as in, could have sung along.

I'd prefer that we'd be able to watch sports without nationalism being shoved down our throats NuclearDem Nov 2013 #2

I'm as patriotic as the next guy but I don't understand why sporting events have to include a celebration of nationalism. I don't even like the anthems at the Olympics and would prefer we go back to the style of the original games of the Greeks, with no clothes or other manifestations of national origin. I do love hearing national anthems and admire their beauty and spirit and be reminded of the thousands who died to defend their homelands, like the American, French, and Russian anthems (my favorites). I like the Corsican national anthem (the anthem of my ancestors) but prefer to admire it at strictly patriotic events.

Clearly some countries have less reverance for the anthem than others. I don't really get how the North American sports announcer can solemnly ask 50,000 citizens to "honor their country etc. etc...." by watching 5 time grammy nominated local boy whine his way through something that resembles the star spangled banner.

I think PRO-SPORTinc uses the national anthem to illict just enough emotion to make it seem like the game means something.

When the camera pans, searching for a teary eye or a noble pose, all it gets is bewildered or bemused expressions....which is probably why they don't care who they send out there and probably prefer that you didn't try to sing along.

At tmes there is a lot of power in standing shoulder to shoulder and singing the same song.

Also, singing ANYTHING during the 7th inning stretch besides "Take me out to the ballgame" is just wrong. ESPECIALLY "God Bless America."

It's about war. But I don't watch sports anyhow. I don't even know why I thought I had to put my two cents in.
