(4,243 posts)I moved back to Northern Ohio to help take care of my mom. I absolutely despise this time of year. I have to practically hibernate until spring.

(11,441 posts)Too much sun, heat, humidity and being stuck in the AC depresses the hell out of me. Cozying up on a cool, gray, rainy day? Enjoying a beautiful snowfall? Aaaaaaah...

(21,020 posts)annual anxiety to counterbalance the SAD?
I have winter SAD which goes away around March or so, but then that gets replaced by spring/summer anxiety.
The only month I'm relatively free from both is August where they meet in the middle and sort of cancel each other out, in a way.

(11,441 posts)I just tend to grumble a bit during the hot, humid summer months. If I do have any sort of anxiety, it's September and October waiting for a freeze, because the mosquitoes in my neighborhood are ridiculous. I've always loved October and early November but not here in Raleigh, it's too stinkin' warm. I also tend to get a little anxious in March and April because I know the heat is coming, and summer temps last longer than I'm accustomed to. That's one thing that will get be back north -- the weather!

(30,947 posts)I am in North Georgia outside of Atlanta. It was in the 30s and 40s this morning. It has warmed up to 60 right now at 5 p.m., but the temperature will be dropping tonight to the 30s, and we will have the first frost of the fall season tomorrow morning. But I am not complaining as I love cold weather. Of course, our winters are not as harsh as in the north. If we are lucky, we may get one snowfall per year.

(59,440 posts)I tried Florida for 5 years and a few other southern states, but I'm so happy to be back here. Still, come February, I'll be whining, too.

(21,020 posts)I ask myself the same thing
My answer...
Because without the misery of cold and darkness each year I don't think I would fully appreciate the other three seasons of the year
Oh, plus I'm too damned lazy to pack and move someplace else

(11,441 posts)single malt or other libations when it's appropriately cool/cold! Roaring fires. Labradors. Hikes without sweating like a you-know-what. I cannot wait for lower temps! I was at a mall today and folks were whining about 55. Wimps.

(18,705 posts)Mostly cool days.
Days in the 70's, nights a little cooler.
The days are pretty blue skies.
Beats the hot days in the summer.

Summers and Fall....sounds like early winter there now Agschmid.
Here in Central Florida, November to March are the best months and the snowbirds will be arriving. I feel for you, summers here are brutal, actually April can be very hot too....til end of October.

(38,545 posts)The cold is really only for a few months.... and so is the unbearable heat and humidity.
And then we get two absolutely terrific seasons of perfect temps--one with flowers blooming and another w/ great foliage.
And we've got some pretty good sports teams too.

(21,925 posts)I have no idea why, but I love dank type of Sherlock Holmes sort of weather like when he's out on the moors checking out the hound of the Baskervilles. When I visited England as a young man in July, 1969, it was drizzling and freezing cold in mid summer and I loved it and the ambiance. I should have been born an Englishman. Instead, my father and all his family were from the sunny South and my mother and her family were all from Corsica or the South of France where it seldom rains. And I've been living in southern California for many years.

or travelling other than locally.
I have visited over half the US - found Florida too humid - Lived in SanDee for over a year, loved it there, but returned over 30 years ago to Canada, and I'm staying.
The political climate in the USA ain't gonna improve much in the time I've left on this planet, and the health care . . .
'nuff said on that.
Saw my first chickadees at my bird feeders two days ago - along with Blue Jays and Evening Grosbeaks - winter brings the birds out of the bush - bugs are gone, so they are happy to entertain me while I watch them chow down.
28 acres of bush I own - thousands of undeveloped acreage around me - yep - it's peaceful here.
Yep - getting cold too - but just OUTSIDE! - Got a woodstove going, with propane and electric heat as a backup for when I'm out of the house for extended periods.
Nothing quite like sitting in front of my woodstove (airtight with a glass door) all toasty while the weather tries its best to cool me down.
Fall and winter are my favorite times - Spring is messy as everything melts and all the roadside garbage shows itself.
"Spring Cleanup" is all about picking up that stuff that got buried under the snow we didn't quite get pt away before the snow moved in.
First heavy snowfall is usually gorgeous - everything looks so clean and pure (sadly it's not, but the illusion is refreshing).
Summer, especially early, can be miserable between the bugs and the heat - but I got A/C and bug dope for that.
I've lived in cities like Toronto and San Diego, and many smaller cities as well. I'm quite content to spend the rest of my days dealing with, and enjoying momma nature in my wee spot in the bush.
As I finish this post, I am watching my happy little chickadees enjoying my feeders outside my living room window.
I wonder if they peek at the happy human watching them?
