You have to see this 9-year-old opera singer! Here she is singing on Holland's Got Talent. She totally stunned the judges, the audience, the other contestants - everyone! They had to pick their jaws up off the floor and you will too!DFW

but she isn't ready for Puccini. She has to breathe halfway through every phrase because she is not old enough to maintain the amount of breath support needed for opera. She should be singing music she is physically capable of handling until she's older. She has potential but let's hope she doesn't push too hard too soon. She's less likely to damage her voice singing classical music than doing screechy pop stuff with a heavy chest voice and vocal fry, but this piece is too hard for her at this point. You can tell by the way she breathes.
It should sound like this:
You could argue that it's unfair to compare a self-trained 9-year-old to a professional singer (and maybe it is), but you can hear how the lines should be sustained and not all chopped up because the singer doesn't have the strength and breath capacity to do it. Someday this kid might be ready for opera but she isn't yet.

(6,261 posts)Just because I'm moved to tears hearing her. Yes, yes, lung capacity, I hear it too, but I'm still in tears all the same over hearing Puccini like this.
