I am running Windows Vista for home pc. I now cannot log on to my account. I typed in my password and the screen said "User profile service failed the logon". So it did not recognize my password. I went back to the logon screen and was able to get access by way of the Guest account, but when I try to change things, again my password is not recognized. Can someone give me some direction as to how to handle this? As Guest, I no longer have access to my files.
God, sometimes I hate windows!

(39,167 posts)If you have a spare keyboard, you could try it to see if that's the problem.
A first suggestion.
Also, we have a Computer Help and Support Group. You might want to ask your question there.

(3,581 posts)The problem started after I shut the computer down with a disc with music videos downloaded from you tube in the CD drive. I started the computer back up sometime later with the DVD still in the drive, and that's when the password problems began. Thanks for the group suggestion, I'll post there as well.

(3,581 posts)and could then logon as myself/admin. But, when I tried the repair, I could not get to the "Create a new account" part. I went into manage accounts, but when I clicked on the create link, nothing happened. I tried right click, left click, double click and nada.

(4,477 posts)You might have to copy your files to a flash drive or a CD, then re-install Vista
Why don't you try upgrading to at least XP? You should be able to get XP disks for a song.

(9,527 posts)Admittedly it wasn't a ready for public use operating system at the time, but especially after Service Pack 1, it wasn't nearly as bad as people think of it.

(3,581 posts)I moved most of my files over to the guest account for now. On my cross post in the Computer Help and Support Group, someone gave me advice on how to go around and create a new admin account. If I can do that, I'll move all those files to that new admin account. Thanks again, my DUers!
