Busted

well the bills are all due
and the babies need shoes.
we’re busted

we’ve had a hard time
since they closed down the mines
we’re busted

got a cow that's gone dry
and a hen that won't lay
a big stack of bills
that gets bigger each day
tomorrow they’ll haul
our belongings away.
we’re busted

well our friends are all leaving
this ole mining town
we’re busted ...

about Busted, which was initially made famous by Johnny Cash ... "Emory had mentioned to him about Busted and how it was such a great song, and what a twist that would have been if it would have been about coal miners," Loveless said. "Harlan said, You're not even going to believe this, but the original lyrics were about coal miners." Indeed, Howard had pitched the song to Cash, but since Cash knew more about cotton than coal, Howard amended the narrative -- and gave Gordy a copy of the original words. "So, no, I didn't change the lyrics to suit me!" ...
