What a great country, and what a not-so-great country - comments about shopping in America

This morning I stopped to fill up my tank and managed to drive off without replacing the gas cap. I noticed then when I saw it fly off the top of the car. I stopped the car and ran to get it. A few second before I was about to run into traffic to get it, someone drove over it, breaking it.

Siri to the rescue. My wife asked Siri to find the nearest car parts store - this is a Sunday morning in rural NH, before 9:00. Siri blew it at first, directing me to a Bond Auto Parts store that was no longer there. Siri then offered up an AutoZone a little further down the road. So, minutes after the gas cap met its end, I had a replacement, and a few minutes later found that I could have gone to an Advance Auto Parts. And if I somehow missed those, there were a few more about 5 miles down the road.

What a country!

Now, a minor complaint, also about shopping, and totally unrelated to car parts.

Why the hell can't I find a Patagonia (or Patagonia-style) extra warm half zip pullover? Full zip jackets? No problem. Parkas? Galore. But a half zip? On sale? None to be found. And don't get me started on colors. Who the hell dictated that traffic cone orange was a legitimate everyday clothing color? Black and grey? Sure, if you like boring. And what's with those weird blues and stoplight red?

...whatever and find me a Kelly Green dress shirt. Ain't going to happen.

4. You will probably have to wait until the powers that be decree that particular green

to be the "in" green for the season. A few years ago it was a very bright chartreuse green. I've lost track of the current "must have" green.

7. I has a devil of a time finding brown dress shirts last fall/winter.

Men's shirts came in a thousand shades of purple last year. I tried every thing from Target to Nieman Marcus, and nada.

Haven't looked this season, for all I know brown could be the new purple. Wacky designers.

18. Actually, I used to dye my jeans (and my Genes also, but that's another story), and it seems like..

...for 3-14 years the dye is bleeding all over the place....and I've tried to "Lock" it in by various means but I swear, at night, I can hear my pants laughing at me. (heh, heh, wait till he sits on a nice white couch).

On the other hand, I once accidentally spilled an Atom of red Rit dye on a light yellow shirt....I've washed it, bleached it , bleached it,
and tried praying over it. I think it's worse than the day I did it.

Maybe that's the key. I'll "accidentally" dye a shirt green. Should work.

The attachment became an unattachment a few years ago. Probably nothing a little duct tape couldn't handle, but I just haven't got around to it. And until today it hadn't mattered.

11. neither of my older model volvos have attached gas caps

but they do have a handy clip on the inside of the flap to put them on.

I took a look. I may go that route, but the pullover is a bit lightweight. But LL Bean really is one of those companies where it's hard to go wrong. So I may give it a try.

If I put on one of those blaze orange jackets, I'd blend right in with those 1970s things in the photo. And I've been to the 1970s. The only good thing was the music - in the early part of the decade. Everything else? Meh.
