and the freaking permanent crown didn't fit

broke a molar about a month back and had the appointment today to get the permanent crown put on.

wake up three hours earlier than normal, suck down a cup of coffee and run out the door. damn car wouldn't start, so i had to take the giant pickup i hate driving.

the hygenist told me they rarely need to numb people to put on the crown, super awesome for me because novacaine makes me sick, but nothing is that easy for me. three or four pulls and excruciating pain to get the temp crown off, even worse pain when she dried the tooth with the little air blower thing.

dentist pops it in and it's a millimeter off on one side. drooled all over myself for five minutes while the new mold set. then the tooth had to be dried again before the new temp could go on.

aches a bit but nothing a couple ibuprofen won't take care of. first world problems and all that, but my day has gotten off to a bit of a lousy start.

Sorry about your misfortune with your dental emergency.

Same happened to my wife a few years ago, however hers broke twice.

Wasn't a very pleasant experience for anyone involved.

Good luck!

I have one that was put in slightly off kilter too, but I'm in no hurry to replace it because of everything that can go wrong.

but neither of us were happy with that idea. i'd rather go through a bit of extra hassle now rather than more nonsense down the road.

I am sorry you have this much trouble - I didn't think it should hurt when they take the temporary off? (I don't recall that it ever has for me, beyond a slight tugging or pressure sensation.) Doesn't that mean there's still an underlying issue?

I'd be interested in what more knowledgeable people have to say, but unless you have a good reason for staying with this dentist you might want to start looking for a new one.

and this is the first issue i've ever had. as far as the temp crown goes, it was cemented on there pretty well. the hygenist joked that i probably could have eaten jujubees and the damn thing would have stayed put.

the dentist said he could make it work, but neither of us thought that was a good idea. this is his freebie, but i'll be a lot more irritated if the next one doesn't work out.

but it makes me soooooooooooo sick when they do it. i'll be weighing temporary pain over a day of being sick.

Even a half-dozen shots of novocaine (which made it so I could barely talk) couldn't numb my mouth sufficiently.

5. They actually have a machine now that makes a crown fit precisely to measurement.

Did not know such a thing existed till this past year when I needed a crown. I expected to havea temporary, then wait 2 weeks for the permanent...nope. All done in one sitting.

I have yet to have need of it, but when I do, no more two week wait and temporary crowns.

OK, that's not really relevant, I guess...

Hope the tooth thing goes better from here on, and that the day improved!

not the worst day i've ever had, but i'd like to toss it in a burlap sack full of rocks, tie it shut and toss it into the reservoir.

I've had quite a few dental nightmares. In terms of crowns I have a few. The dentist I have has always been able to make adjustments right away if it didn't fit correctly. It sometimes takes them 20-25 minutes, but they get it done.

I'd look for a new dentist prior to having any other work done.
