Oh my, starting to twig a little.

My oldest, my daughter was dx'ed Type 1 diabetic when she was nine, and I was four months pregnant with my youngest.

I had my youngest 7 weeks early, and he was only held in the hospital because his blood glucose was low. It was hard to keep it above 40ml. I was warned that since his sister is diabetic, he could be also.

He's now 6. Has had a cold with a cough, for the past couple of days. He's much like me, get into a coughing fit, we will vomit. He's not wanting to eat, just drinking water. Tested his bg last night and he was 85 ml. Not acting lethargic, but scaring the he'll out of me.

Just asking for vibes, light, prayers, anything, that my youngest is not diabetic. Having one is tough enough, though she is 16 now and on the pump. However, another will just break my heart. I know how to deal on the parent side. However how it affects the child, is something completely other.

I have a couple of friends whose children are brittle diabetics and it is so hard on all of them. Hope your daughter does well and for your son, that he doesn't have to deal with it as well.

Hugs to all...

DKA scares the living crap out of me!! I'll keep testing him. I just don't want another child burdened with this. It isn't fair!! I donate to find a cure to this. I don't wish this condition on anyone!!!

Hubby was diagnosed 4 years ago with Adult onset Type 1. Had no idea it could suddenly happen to adults like that. It's been rough, and I cannot imagine going through all of that with a child.

(a part of the pancreas called the islet of langerhans) are destroyed. This happens most often as a sequelae to another illness, when the immune cells that were produced to attack the pathogen attack the islet of langerhans.

It probably happens more often in childhood because they get sick more. It may be less common in adults because they've already had most or all the childhood illnesses.

for type 1. I didn't expect to find anything because how do you rebuild a destroyed part of an organ?

But this came up near the top. Apparently there is evidence that certain foods *may* induce regeneration or repair of the beta cells in the islet of langerhans...
