I never engage in this shopping thing at this time, but just for kicks, what are the best deals that you know about?
The only one I really am tempted by is the 50" tv at Target for like $240.
What else is tempting?

(10,418 posts)The coupon is actually good until December 8th, but it was sent out just before Thanksgiving with Black Friday in mind, I'm sure.

They say they have "at least 40 tvs per store", but I bet they'll be gone less than an hour after opening.
Sad that those deals are for the young and healthy

(115,586 posts)These big stores will stock just a few of their big advertised sale items, so they run out almost immediately and you have to buy the more expensive things that they have a lot of. Black Friday is the biggest scam ever.

(9,808 posts)My niece got a good machine last year and isn't ready for a serger. Even big box janomes are good machines and durable, though, so if someone on one's list is looking for a good starter machine, Hancock's the the place.
Other than that... Meh. Nothing even remotely tempting. I don't even like doing basic groceries between the 2nd week of November and the second of January.
I'm lucky - the boys get on trend backpacks or messenger bags, elder niece gets a textiles class (she's aiming at textiles engineer and is learning technical sewing) and supplies; younger niece gets new engines for her rockets and usually a new one to build. Shopping is done months in advance.

(21,840 posts)I had my eyes on short boots and running shoes from a particular manufacturer. I badly needed the sneakers; I had developed a hole on the sole of my current running shoes. The boots were 50% off and the running shoes were 30% off; then they were an additional 10% off and free shipping.
I hate to admit that I shopped on Black Friday but I got them online and was going to buy them anyway.

Don't know where I'm gonna buy an extra month to get them done though.

(20,234 posts)CVS had kind of an early black friday thing, so I did phase one of my master plan there on Sunday. I paid $150 for a paypal mastercard with $150 on it, plus a $5 activation fee. My receipt printed $50 in CVS bucks.
I used those CVS bucks and $3 cash to buy milk, paper towels, laundry soap, peanut butter cups, migraine medication, cough drops, probiotics, gum, sparkling pomegranate drinks, stress relief gummy things, and I forget what else, but other things - all of which generated more CVS bucks, so at the end of that round I had $51 in new CVS bucks.
Today I took my paypal card to meijer and used $100 of it to buy a $100 gift card to lowes, which generated a $20 coupon off my next trip to meijer. That was my only actual black friday purchase - but I needed to buy something today to qualify for a $40 survey about my black friday purchases - I had to answer a few questions and upload the receipt.
So from my initial $157 expenses at CVS, I ended up with:
$100 in lowes gift cards
$50 remaining on the paypal card
$50 in CVS purchases
$50 remaining in CVS store credit
$40 in new paypal money, and
$20 meijer store credit.

(20,234 posts)There was a sign on the gift card display rack saying which ones generate the $20 coupon. I like those coupons because it's just $20 off a $20 purchase, you don't have to spend $100 to use it or anything.
Riteaid has a similar deal still running through today, they have a "home improvement gift card" - buy a $50 card and get $10 in Riteaid bucks back (limit 2). Those cards are good at home depot, lowes, and I think other home improvement stores.
I decided I'd rather have grocery money than drug store money - but then my husband claimed my $20 anyway for buying an air filter for his car and an oil filter for mine. I guess it's funny black friday shopping - no lines, no exciting giant screen tv's, but the free filters are practical.
