NewJeffCT
(56,828 posts)usually, a sign that somebody died so they can say goodbye to them. My guess is Scott Wilson (Hershel)
CrawlingChaos
(1,893 posts)"Surprise cast member" always means that person died in that day's episode, and I hate to say it but you're probably right about Hershel. I actually didn't like the character at first (too sanctimonious) but now I LOVE Hershel (all credit to the fine actor who plays him) and I don't want him to go! But it makes a lot of sense because they'll undoubtedly have to leave the prison, and Hershel is in no shape for life on the road. And Maggie is the announced guest (so we know she's safe) and that seems like a hint - having Maggie and Hershel together on the Talking Dead set to say farewell. Dammit!
They're pretty much down to core characters we just can't lose without major outcry -- I suppose Beth, Sasha and Tyrese are possible victims, but I get the feeling they want to develop those characters. Bob seems like a likely future victim, but I don't think they've played out his conflict/story line yet, so he'll probably make it past the break.
So tonight will be doubly sad -- losing Hershel (still hoping we're both wrong) and having to wait months for more Walking Dead! I will be doing so much pouting...
Btw, did you see where George Romero had supposedly "dissed" the Walking Dead by calling it a soap opera? I haven't see his remarks in context yet, but the same could be said of The Sopranos, Breaking Bad, etc. - all kinds of truly great shows.

Looks like they might give Hershel the Tyreese from the comics exit. more spoilers - beheaded by the Governor using Michonne's katana while everybody in the prison watches.

(18,705 posts)The Gov will loose the prison anyway.
Without the fence you can't keep the walkers out.
A lot of the Gov's new army will run or get attacked by the walkers.
The prison was big enough for everyone.
Of course we are dealing with the Gov.
I am just wondering who will die tonight.
The video they have shown on tv shows Carl aiming with a rifle and saying he will end it now.
I am guessing he is aiming at the Gov.
NewJeffCT
(56,828 posts)I'm still not sure why the Governor killed all those national guardsmen at the start of the season. Why not invite them into Woodbury, and you have experienced soldiers to help defend the place.

Judith???? Is she or isn't she? (Probably, yes) Still, I'd be mighty (homicidally) pissed at whoever was supposed to put Judith on the bus and didn't...regardless of how young they turn out to be. But that's just me...and I'm not nice. (see below)
I was glad when New-Penny got it. Maybe that's bad of me but I'm not losing any sleep over it. Besides, I think her fate (in the storyline) was always tied to the Governor's storyline. Meaning, from the moment she was introduced I knew she would die.

(90,776 posts)Judith: Last seen being carried by 2 of the 4 kids in this episode. 3 girls, 1 boy. 2 of the kids were Lizzie and Mika. Mika was helping to carry Judith when Lizzie said to get guns and fight.
Judith may or may not be dead. Dead being the more likely. Daryl will hate that.
Lizzie: I'm more and more inclined to think she killed Karen and David and Carol just took the blame. But I dunno. Just a thought. Maybe she did, maybe she didn't...but I do wonder.
Michonne last seen viewing the Guv. and walking away.
Glen is on the bus.
Daryl and Beth are together.
Tyreese is with the 4 kids. (from above) Well, he's with Mika and Lizzie, at least. The boy and the other girl ran away when Lizzie was shooting Alisha.
Bob, Maggie and Sasha leave together.
Rick and Carl leave ala Comics together.
Everyone else is either dead or on the bus.
(Hershel is dead, of course)
Lilly is still alive. Tara is as well, I guess. She ran. Could be we see them both again.
I'm thinking we'll see Carol again after the break.
I hope they'll all look for the bus. Glen will want to find Maggie and she him. Beth will want to find Maggie. Michonne will want to find Rick and Carl. Daryl will want to find any of them. Tyreese is going to need help with 4 kids.
Wonder what Lilly was thinking when she put the bullet through Phillip's * "Brian Heriot's" (THE Governor's)* head? I hope she enjoyed it. Even if just a little.
Joe Shlabotnik
(5,604 posts)It'd be a bit far fetched if the prison group didn't have a rendezvous plan like in season two. Also Rick will need medical help asap, will he meet up with Bob's group, or will Carol save his ass, or maybe Carl will learn how to drive and whisk him away to Morgan's?
Solly Mack
(90,776 posts)I hope so.
They planned how to get the bus out of the prison and what route to take. Surely they planned an immediate destination for regrouping should the need arise.
We have a long wait to find out.
(will seem long anyway)
NewJeffCT
(56,828 posts)I think.
Didn't Maggie mention a place where their dad (RIP Hershel) took them as kids?
Solly Mack
(90,776 posts)Amicalola Falls. (been there, done that)
I know several mentioned the doomsday plan...getting on the bus, leaving by the administration entrance/exit out back. But I don't recall them talking about a rendezvous point.
I could be forgetting.
Still, could be a point Maggie and Glen make for since they both talked about it. Long way away from where they are now.
CrawlingChaos
(1,893 posts)I've only seen it once so far, but I think you have correctly identified the splinter groups.
I agree Judith is most likely dead, which I'm basing on Robert Kirkman's reaction when the subject came up on Talking Dead, and in the past he has been fairly reliable with his clues (no deliberate misdirection, as David Morrissey has been doing re: the Gov's fate). Could be they wanted to take Judith out of the storyline, but showing a baby being chewed on by zombies would have been beyond transgressive, even by Walking Dead standards. As Kirkman said, there was a lot of blood on that carseat.
Except for Rick and Carl, the pairings seem so random, so this is sure to get interesting. Can't wait to see who gets their asses saved by Carol and Morgan.
I assume Lizzie was behind the animal dissection, and since she may know more than we do about Karen's murder, it's interesting that she's now alone with Tyrese.
Overall, it was an amazing show, even though I now have a serious case of the sads. I'm glad they're moving the group beyond the prison - it was time.
Solly Mack
(90,776 posts)For those reasons. (the rats, the dissection, Karen) His nature is such that he would see her as a child and in need of protection and still be torn by his anger and hurt at her actions. He would be grateful for his life, yet would still find Lizzie to be a danger. Another chance to explore adapting to the world they live in - and how they survive. (keeping their humanity or not)
Hershel was so proud of Rick just before he died. How they survive is a huge theme of the show, I think.
I hope Judith is on the bus. I think she's dead. Not much room for survival while on the run with a baby. I agree. Can't show zombies eating an infant. We saw another carseat covered in blood when the group was on the highway where Sophia got lost. I forget now who spotted it and just stared, digesting the implications.
I think Beth might become a love interests for Daryl. I think that's the why of their pairing. Also, with Daryl, she'll learn more about surviving and standing as her own person. She'll have to learn.
I think Michonne will find Rick and Carl. But she might find Morgan first. Michonne is good at finding the stray.
Carol will either find Rick and Carl or Daryl and Beth. Maybe she's already at where they are all heading. (wherever that is)
Glen might force himself to take charge of the bus crowd. He's still weak with recovery though.
The oddest grouping for me is Bob, Sasha and Maggie. Sasha is thankful to Bob but she won't tolerate a drunk while on the run. She can cut a loss and she believes in closing ranks. Maggie is now without all of her primary family groupings. No Daddy. No sister. No Glen. Bob was a loner, more or less, before the prison. Sasha was with her brother. Maggie, her family. So maybe that grouping isn't so odd after all.
I don't know who we will see alive come February. Time will have gone by and there's no guarantee everyone survives the split. Death shown in flashbacks. Unless the remainder of the show is how they eventually reunite in a season finale, we won't see everything that happens to each grouping. Making it almost a necessity for some of the pairings to regroup early on. Too many different groups to follow and not enough time otherwise.
I am biased by my wishful thinking, of course.
CrawlingChaos
(1,893 posts)There's no way they're not going to play out the Tyreese/Lizzie drama to it's full potential. The writers are setting up a big shitstorm on multiple fronts, for sure. Everything that's happened has been laying the groundwork for that, I think. They keep teasing that they're going to shock us in the second half of the season and this situation could be a big part of that.
That Hershel death scene tore me up. The relationship between Rick and Hershel has been one of the pillars of the show - to knock that out from under us really hurts (as silly as that sounds, talking about a TV show). I don't even want to watch that part again, at least not yet. This is the most upset I've been about a character death so far.
I wondered about Daryl/Beth as a potential couple, but I recall an interview with Norman Reedus where he said he didn't think the character was capable of a romantic relationship and he was hoping they wouldn't go there. They may just do it anyway.
Michonne meeting up with Morgan would be awesome - I'd love to see that. Two of the most intense characters on the show - it could be really great. They could combine forces to help the others, which could set us up for a very satisfying conclusion.
The Bob/Sasha/Maggie group is the oddest combo. I don't even have a guess. Speaking of which, that was kind of a weird scene with Bob and his shoebox. Your first thought is bound to be booze, but it's a shoebox (odd choice for hiding liquor) ... could Bob be a wild card pick for secret psychopath?
Well, two whole months to mull this over - I hate waiting!

NewJeffCT
(56,828 posts)but, the baby died in the comics as they left the prison... but, I think the comic has been darker overall than the show. In the comics: Rick loses his hand to The Governor, and Tyreese has a daughter commit suicide with her boyfriend

NewJeffCT
(56,828 posts)so, it can still happen on the show and be on the same timeline.
Also, in the comics, Carol & Tyreese are a couple, but he later slips up and cheats on her with Michonne when she joins the group.
But, the characters changed a lot from comic to TV show - in the comics, I liked Dale, but I found TV Dale to be annoying... just the opposite with Hershel - thought he was annoying in the comic, but he was much more likable on the show. Same with Andrea - annoying & stupid on the show (and dead). In the comics, she just keeps going & going... and she's still alive, as is Sophia.
