Western Indiana was dumped on all through the night. Matter of fact, it's still snowing! Looks like I'll be playing on my Kubota tractor today digging my long driveway out and then my neighbors.

(14,910 posts)Looks like we will get a good portion of the Atlantic storm here in a sizeable portion of New York. Our area is projected in the 7"-10" range overnight with lake enhancement from NW winds through late Sunday morning.
As a snow removal contractor, I welcome the winter wonderland. Keeps the lights on in the homestead.
Good luck everyone, be safe!

(14,549 posts)Just leave it where it falls. My neighbors scrape it down but not all the way so then they get this sheet of ice. Better if it is still packed powder, better traction.
I have 2 neighbors that constantly have boundary disputes. One is a real estate broker who has a tiny half-house between two others. His driveway spans the whole width of his property in the back, about 14 feet. He torn down the neighbor's fence with no discussion because by law the other neighbor was supposed to leave 2 feet between the fence and the prop line. This year real estate guy was all over neighbor B's trash bin because it was 2 inches onto his property (that is where the trash guys leave it).
So it snows 6 inches Saturday. Guess where real estate guy's snow gets plowed to ? Yep. Somehow God put Neighbor B's snow on real estate guy's precious driveway and real estate guy had to move it all into Neighbor B's yard and sidewalk.

(3,070 posts)I was born there and still have a lot of family there.
but I AM spending the day cleaning up. Broken water pipes are repaired, septic lines have thawed, back-ups have drained, and I can now do a week's worth of dishes and laundry, scrub the showers, toilets, and tubs, and, finally, take a shower at home.

(6,151 posts)Didn't receive any mail to day, or the mailman didn't want to slog to the box. I knew that could happen but I flat didn't want to do it this morning. Monday will be time enough. This morning the baking bug bit and I really had a good time. Let the mail wait. They won't send you a notice around here before the carrier's been blocked for at least a week. And then he still has to stomp up to the mailbox. I'm going to play the age card here.
But I love snow and in particular during that season, linemen and guys with plows.

(6,151 posts)to the box this morning. It's really about 7" deep because we already had 3 on the ground.
But that's okay. I'm just thrilled the smooth coat JRT loves the snow. All my worries about 2 such hyper dogs being cooped up all winter were fairly unwarranted. I gave them some old jeans parts to play tug of war with, and they chase each other all around the house, baying almost like hounds. When they run it off, they bark at the door to come in again, and I don't need to worry until next time they whine at the door. In other words, if I let them drive, all's well.
Of course they haven't yet jumped into a snow drift over their heads either! But they might like that too. I'm happy when they're happy.

Bought myself an old 95 Ford F150 with a plow already on it for $2500 a few months back.
Last winter I could spend DAYS shovelling out after a good storm -
This guy? (F150) 15 minutes for a basic path - an hour for a real nice job.
Well worth the investment imo.

(14,881 posts)That's after it drops to 5-8 below zero tonight (as weather.com and wunderground move into convergence).
Then it's back up to somewhere between 35-40 on Friday, with possible wintry mix turning to light rain. Or not.

(72,300 posts)Then I gunned my 4 WD through the mountain of snow left by the plow. When I returned from acting like a chauffeur I went to bed for the rest of the day.
Sigh. We are getting another 3 inches tomorrow.

I hate driving at night. Pick-up time is midnight. Then I have another 30 mile drive to get back home.
