Picacho Peak (Pic heavy)

http://azstateparks.com/Parks/PIPE/index.html

I picked up MFM's ashes on Saturday and decided to drive out to Picacho to have a look around. Took a few pix. (light wasn't the best, sorry)

check out the saguaros way up there on the rock edge

old memorial for the Civil War "battle"

nice spot for a picnic/bbq/reunion

a young saguaro that might make a living "marker"

and finally, a now-defunct business nearby (there is an adult store across the way as well ) with the perfect signage

I bet Ptah can photoshop MFM's head on that squirrel.

It seems like a lovely place. Thank you, Kali.

I wouldn't mind having my ashes scattered in a place like that. Wish I could attend.

The only thing I'd add would be some of those tag-team bed baths he was so fond of talking about.

Didn't you say this was the view Jim had before his health went south?

It's very pretty and more than suitable for his ashes as well as a meetup.

Ya done good sweetie!

he lived out there with is cat, Noname and loved that he could see the peak from his bed.

I am not sure how many folks would want to go all the way out and I probably should have just gone ahead and scattered him Saturday but he never made it out to the ranch so I brought him home for a while. I think the real meet-up will be at Guadalajara Grill, but there is time to make those decisions/plans so I am open and flexible to any feedback from those who might want to participate.

I have driven past there all my life and never went into the park, this was my first time. It is really nice and would be a great place to camp (rv or tent) in the winter for anybody traveling the sun belt. It is close to the interstate yet was nice and quiet, at least while I was there. Living next to the interstate myself, I do know sometimes it can be almost silent and other times when the air is right you can hear it miles away.

I am possibly going to be in the AZ area some time this year. Visiting my sister and new niece.
I think I'll make a pilgrimage.

Seems ideal, especially since it meant something to him.

But I think anyone traveling to AZ for the meetup would also want to be included in the scattering of MFM's ashes there. Followed by food and girly drinks at the Grill, of course.

You may need to add a reference to MFM in the thread title so folks who are interested won't miss this.

I lived in AZ from '75 to '91. Flagstaff, but I traveled many times to Tucson and Phoenix. Now I live way north. Arizona and radio there will always be in my heart, though. Thank you, Kali.

Sure do miss MFM.
I have to agree on Picacho, it's one of my favorite places to go. Watching Nickerson's restaurant crumbling into ruins has been a rather weird fascination of mine. For non-Spanish speakers, "Picacho Peak" means "Peak Peak": one of the reasons I like the place. Probably one of the reasons MFM loved it, too!
