According to a new study, dogs do not feel shame. There is a thread here about it, too.

I don't agree. I am sure my dog feels shame.

and feel bad about doing that thing when the people find out and express their disapproval. Sometimes dogs are impulsive and just can't resist getting into garbage, or whatever, even when they've been taught people don't like that.

I heard the end of the segment on NPR and the researcher said dogs just learn that when they feign a guilty look it seems to make the human relax.

She claimed that her NOSE sniffed out the doughnuts, and her MOUTH ate them. But then SHE got in trouble for it. Not fair!
