Cat saves woman from diabetic seizure

http://www.greenbaypressgazette.com/article/20120217/GPG0101/302170104/21-pound-cat-pulls-Sturgeon-Bay-woman-out-diabetic-seizure?odyssey=mod|defcon|text|FRONTPAGE

Jung, who was diagnosed with diabetes at the age of 4, had begun to have a seizure. According to Jung, Pudding planted his weight on her chest and, when he could not wake her, began swatting her face and biting her nose.

“Anything he could to pull me out of it (the seizure),” she said.

The manhandling – cathandling? – worked. She woke up and the convulsions stopped long enough for her to call to her son for help. When Ethan did not respond to the calls, the cat ran to his room and jumped on his bed.

Ethan later told her that he didn’t know anything was wrong until the giant cat landing on the bed woke him up.

I have one and she is a hoot, so vocal and so very smart. She figured out the laser pointer in about a minute and just gives me a bored look now when I try it on her.

My 14 year old daughter has been Type 1 for 8 years. We have a 9 year old cat that is also overweight. He has awakened her 2 or 3 times during the night, and each time she has checked her blood sugar and was low and had to go to the kitchen to get some juice and crackers. Her doctor says he has heard of this but doesn't know what may be involved.

By the way, I have trouble keeping my cool when some jackass starts in on 'Obamacare.' They usually shut up when I tell them its repeal could threaten my daughter's life. Under the old rules you went off your parent's health insurance when you graduated from college. What would be the chance of her finding a job immediately after graduating that had health insurance and didn't exempt pre-existing conditions? Without insurance her supplies could run over $6,000/year.
