(61,837 posts)the supremely annoying Blues Travelers (which nearly made it, along with Spin Doctors).
Yuck!

(5,604 posts)When the song "Hell' came out I was an undertaker, and I found it fun to work late nights with that playing on the radio. But then again, hearing Monster Mash in the embalming room or driving the hearse on Halloween was always an occasion for smug glee.
Otherwise I agree with the list, but didn't mind Smash Mouth, because they did retro 60's pop well.

(4,945 posts)playing with Blues Traveler.
My teenaged nephew started getting into them; I bought him a Little Walter collection so that he could hear how the instrument should be played.

(4,945 posts)Shit like Dishwalla, Semisonic, Harvey Danger, Sister Hazel, and Deep Blue Something weren't around long enough to be memorably hated.

(776 posts)I had forgotten about them, thankfully. Now I blame you for reminding me!
I had a roommate who would play them a lot, so I was more familiar with them than I ever wanted to be...
Although I'd argue that, like the other bands you listed, they weren't relevant long enough to become really hated.

(6,336 posts)I was neutral about them until dating him then he went off about why he hated them.
After that (we had since broken up) they released THE most annoying song in the world (If I had a million dollars) and another song that's lyrics sounded like a 2nd grader wrote them.
I guess that's the one thing he was right about.

"Put On a Jersey!"
Yes, Prachi Gupta , I'm talking to you. It's much easier to write clickbait articles ragging on bands that aren't obscure or egdy enough for you than to actually make music. "Twenty years later and chances are that you can still hear Rucker rattling around there in your brain" you intone. Yes! Yes, you still hear Rucker because he has a highly sucessful country music career -- not that you'd condescend to listen to anything aside from Pandora streams and obscure college radio stations.

(12,778 posts)Hootie and the Blowfish is a glaring exception. Boy do I hate Hootie. Oh, and Insane Clown Posse too.

(10,000 posts)The article is bands of the last 30 years.......
SMBs last hit was "Abracadabra" in 1982. My friend. 1982 was 32 years ago.
"Fly Like an Eagle" turns 38 this year
"Book of Dreams" turns 37
I grew up listening to this music. Soon, I'll be looking into the assisted living facility they are building down the street from me.

(47,245 posts)95% bland shit.
For every 1 Peter Gabriel, there were 99 Whams.
Tom Ripley
(4,945 posts)both their fans and detractors.
I once worked with someone who ONLY wanted to hear the classic rock shit he had heard in high school.
I found that playing Laibach or ICP would drive him to near-homicidal levels of agitation. Good times.

(45,850 posts)okay they're pretty forgettable a Walmart version of Nickleback and that's saying something both awful bands

(20,411 posts)This was on a Sunday. It rained on Friday and Saturday so it was PACKED on Sunday.
Hootie was one of the few performances where one could get within hearing distance. All of the other artists' performances were packed.
Being within hearing distance was not necessarily a good thing . . .

(776 posts)Pretty solid list.

(2,777 posts)I never understood that
Cobain was a tortured soul which made an outlet for poetry. Their music was honest until the corporates got wind of the band.
He reminds me quite a bit of Nick Drake

I'm really sorry to have had to tell you that. You may want to consider purchasing a life alert and looking at a no-denial insurance policy to cover your final expenses now. I know I am.

(27,247 posts)Some of their more recent singles include:
1994 "Get Over It"
"Love Will Keep Us Alive"
"The Girl from Yesterday"
1995 "Learn to Be Still"
2003 "Hole in the World"
2005 "No More Cloudy Days"
2007 "How Long"
2008 "Busy Being Fabulous"
"What Do I Do with My Heart"
2009 "I Don't Want to Hear Any More"
So yes, they DO qualify.
OmahaBlueDog
(10,000 posts)I don't think they've recorded anything relevant.
I think you have to have recorded something omeone has actually heard to qualify.
The Velveteen Ocelot
(130,420 posts)that I've lost track of how long they've sucked.

(10,000 posts)For those of us who grew up listening to music in...say 1978.
If you turn on a so-called FM "Adult Contemorary" station today, you will more than likely hear music by artists such as The Eagles, Billy Joel, and Elton John. It's 2014, and that music was made mostly between 1975-1978 which is between 36-39 years old.
So in 1978, this would be like listening to FM stations that played Glenn Miller, Bing Crosby, & Ella Fitzgerald.

(67,080 posts)She's a relative neophyte, compared to Limp Bizkit & Nickelback, who've been polluting the airwaves for more than a decade. Certainly she can't be nearly as bad as Shrek Mouth.
Give her time to redeem herself or to earn our contempt.

(3,922 posts)I like many of the bands on her "Dishonorable mentions" list.
I remember most of those groups in the '90s when I went to jr. high and high school. Sigh. I'm getting old.

(13,360 posts)Even though this POS song goes back to 1968 (46 yrs), I still hated it 30 years ago, and continue to hate it. All lists should include In the Year 2525. Zager and Evans are lucky they didn't get drafted and sent to the Cambodia or Laos front lines for conceiving such a song.
In the year 2525 is to music what Sarah Palin is to astrophysics imho.
