Dinner or Supper?

I grew up eating breakfast, then at noon dinner, and at 5pm supper.

I know the terms lunch and dinner are interchangeable, as is dinner and supper.

What do you call dinner and supper?

1. To me, lunch is only dinner

on Sunday. Well, it was when I lived at my parent's home and went to church and then to Sunday dinner. I don't do any of that any more so it's just lunch now. I eat supper at night like Flying Spaghetti Monster intended.

'Supper' for me = late night after-dinner!

I grew up in Philly and we mostly call it dinner but no one who calls it supper would be thought out of place, AFAIK.

9. In the farming area where I grew up,

it went from breakfast early in the morning to lunch at mid-morning, around 10:30a, to dinner at noon, lunch around 3p and dinner at 6p. These times were mostly only at spring and fall when there was a lot of field work to be done.

In Wisconsin soda is pop
In Florida pop is brand name only, ie coke, etc.

Funny, I live in Sheboygan, have lived in Sheboygan county my entire life.

Never heard anyone refer to it as "pop."

Generally though, dinner is more common around my area, but it is understood either way.

It is fun to use "supper" though, especially when talking dirty.

...if it's the more formal meal of the day. Dinner would likely then be the evening meal weekdays but often a mid-day meal on Sundays for the church going crowd.
