Anybody else ever tried PeaPod grocery delivery?

I just placed my first order. The prices seem to be about the same as a regular grocery store. If this works out, no more lugging heavy stuff like cat litter home from the store!

Well worth the price. The only problem is that the online lists sometimes don't have stuff that is in the store; conversely, they also have stuff that isn't in the store, so it balances.

Well, there is one other problem: I tend to get more stuff when I order online!

2. I use a similar service, door to door organics.

Primarily for produce, dairy and eggs. (We buy our meats by the side of beef, pork by the hog and our chickens by the dozen from a local producer.)

I have been incredibly happy with them. D2D's prices are comparable to grocery organic prices, it takes me 20 minutes to shop (because there's a standard box we buy and the only thing I need to worry about is swapping out a couple of seasonal things we just don't like) and I can do it any time. (Usually while winding down after going to bed, to be honest.) It makes me stick to a meal plan and it cuts down on the too tired to cook so takeout because I feel guilty about composting aspirational vegetables. (Also, the dairy comes in glass, reusable bottles.)

In time savings alone, it's been a life-saver, and I say that as someone with the privilege of a great grocery a mile away. I still hit Penzey's for spices every 3-4 months, the cheese shop about once a month, the local coffee roaster and the farm stands (when they're open) because even local, organic weekly vegetable deliveries don't compare to fresh roasted chiles and local tomatoes, but all of those stops are easier because I'm not trying to cram them into an overloaded schedule that includes 2 hours of staple runs. (We don't eat any grains or legumes or sweets -- we have a badly behaved pancreas in the house.)

D2D is not available everywhere (but neither is peapod) but I support the idea. Plus, one car on the road making 25 stops probably does less pollution damage than 25 households all making 2-3 runs a week.
