Other people's cats show their love by leaving dead birds or mice on the doorstep. Boomer brings a LIVE FUCKING SNAKE into the living room.
The snake has been returned unharmed to the wild. Thank GOD Cailen isn't home; she would have flushed herself down the toilet to get away.

(4,858 posts)...that was bigger than she was. Ever since, I've assumed that mourning doves are are as dumb as dirt...and of course, you get the occasional blue jays and mice and even a rabbit...but never a snake...

(1,365 posts)I ever heard of was done by a guy who was sick of his cat bringing animals inside. The devise would only recognize his cat, and unlock the cat door, if there was no animal in the cat's mouth.

(22,837 posts)My cat once brought in an alligator lizard and it got away and was somewhere in the house, hiding. I found it two weeks later-- it was fine-- and I put it back where it belonged (i.e., outside).
Ah... Life's little adventures

(22,755 posts)I am a fan of snakes and I would be pleased if the cat brought me one
as long as it was one of those nice garter snakes
not too many poisonous in the NorthEast

(34,119 posts)I wouldn't mind too much, though it would be startling to find it underfoot in the middle of the night.
Last fall when I was moving some boxes, I found that we had a broadheaded skink living in the house:
Because I disturbed his lair, he moved under the refrigerator. I haven't seen him for months but since skinks stink really really bad when they die,I'm pretty sure he's either still living in the house somewhere or found his way outside this spring when we left the door to the screened porch open some evenings.
Last week when the AC guy was here a gray rat snake crawled over his foot. Just real casual like, "hey since you're gonna be messing around here where I like to live, I'll just mosey along. Seeya!" Neither was upset by the encounter and the AC guy was glad when I thanked him for not killing my snake. We have that one living by the AC and a black racer (or maybe an indigo - it's black and moves too fast to get any details) living under the edge of our pond.

(26,093 posts)The third attempt was a much larger rat snake. Just happened to see her with it and took her pretty away.
She's an indoor cat now.

(30,947 posts)In fact, I had two boa constrictors as pets. But visitors to my house used to be freaked out when they knew the snakes were roaming freely.

(22,837 posts)I didn't even know she had it until I saw it sitting halfway in her kitchen sink, halfway on her dish rack-- I freaked
We used to take it walking on a leash. Got a lot of people looking at us askance, of course
