device for blocking calls?

Not sure this is the right place to ask this -

I am going nuts with telemarketer calls from the scam people who ignore the do not call list. The only good thing is that so far they tend to reuse spoofed numbers. I get easily ten calls a week and it seems to be increasing.

My phone service isn't compatible with the Nomorobo thing and Verizon no longer offers call block, so I have to buy some gizmo.

The problem is that when I read about them they either have lots of complaints on amazon reviews about not working, refusing legitimate calls, etc. or the ones that work have incredibly complex directions.

I bought a Panasonic phone that has a call block feature, but the setup is so complex I think it will interfere with my other phones, answering machine, etc.

Does anyone know of a simple device that will just block the list of numbers I give it and not do anything else?

Thanks.

is the Digitone Call Blocker. I bought one and installed it on an answering machine (which is also a telephone). The device costs about $100 and can be configured to do exactly what you want, but the instructions are not very easy to follow. The device never passes the signal through to the answering machine during the first ring. If the device decides that the call is obnoxious, it answers the call and then immediately hangs up, breaking the connection and giving no feedback to the caller. Other phones in the house will ring just once once when this happens.

We also have Nomorobo, and the telephone company (Verizon) blocks some calls with blank caller-ID information. So we have three layers of protection. Even with all this, some obnoxious calls still get through. Defending our privacy is a constant struggle.

My land line has something called "call blocking" which supposedly allows me to block unwanted numbers from calling, but ever single time I tried it, it tells me the number I put in is not available for this service. Really? Then what good is it?

be the best for me. If it is someone genuine, they will leave a message and I call back, otherwise I just look and ignore and delete.

From RadioShack

Many modern cellphones allow you to block calls from specified numbers rather easily. However, with some other phones, you may have to install an application or use a third-party service to stop unwanted phone calls from interrupting your activities.
Phones with Native Phonebook Blocking Features
Step 1
Press or tap the "Menu" key or button.
Step 2
Select "Settings" and then "Phone" or "Phone Settings"; then tap "Calls" or "Incoming Calls."
Step 3
Press or tap "Blocked Callers," "Blacklist," "Unwanted Calls" or other similarly named menu option. After selecting the appropriate menu option, your contact list or phonebook appears on the screen.
Step 4
Select the name of the person from whom you do not want to receive calls and press or tap "OK" or "Block." If the name of the person is not in your contact list or phone book, enter his phone number in the number field and select "Block" or "OK."
Step 5
Exit the menu screen on the phone. After you block the person, calls from the number no longer appear on your screen nor cause your cellphone to ring. A caller on your blacklist hears a busy signal when he attempts to call or hears a message stating that you do not accept calls from his number.
Android 4.0/4.1 Phones
Step 1
Tap "Contacts" on the Home screen and then scroll down to the name of the person from whom you want to block calls.
Step 2
Tap the "Menu" button and then "Options." Tap the check box next to "Incoming Calls - Send calls directly to voicemail" to place a check mark in it.
Step 3
Return to your contact list and enable the "Incoming Calls - Send calls directly to voicemail" for other contacts as needed. Contacts for whom you enable the option hear your voicemail message when they try to call you and your phone does not ring.

I found where it was located on my cell phone and already blocked the party that was hounding me. I don't mind if they try to call once a month or so, but when they start hounding me on a daily basis and I've told them that I'm unemployed and trying to get SSDI, then you would think that they would back off for awhile.

so that it works in power failures. During Sandy, only copper landlines worked here, not cell phones, not FIOS.
