that's been on for awhile but you just never got around to watching before? For me recently it is Chicago Fire. I've been holding little mini marathons through on demand. I actually think it just maybe my favorite show now.
I am almost done with season 2, and have plans to go back and watch season 1 soon.

There is going to be another marathon in August, btw.

Coventina
(27,052 posts)I started watching partway through season 4 and was immediately hooked.
I just love the show to pieces. I can't think of any episode I wouldn't watch again as a rerun.
Many people complain about the on-again-off-again Penny & Leonard dynamic, but the truth is, a lot of relationships go that way.
I guess my biggest criticism is actually the Sheldon/Amy ship. They do have their differences, but I really feel they are too similar and having both characters in the same show is a bit much. I have noticed more changes in Amy's character, which has made her a bit better.
If they ever add kids to the show, though, I'm out.

It's the song Sheldon's mother used to sing to him when he was sick as a child.
Now, he demands it of whomever happens to be around when he's sick.
Or, he sings it to sick people he's taking care of.
It was a moment of high comedy when he sang it to Bob Newhart's character in the hospital.

(12,017 posts)I even watch the reruns again and again.

(43,145 posts)I had pretty much given up on the traditional multicamera/laugh track/studio audience sitcoms by that time (the last one I enjoyed regularly was "King of Queens" , and given that none of Chuck Lorre's other offerings had made me laugh much, I pretty much ignored it for its first five or so seasons.
Somehow, last summer, I started watching reruns and I quickly became hooked. Now I'm a regular viewer, even of the TBS reruns. A very funny show. Having more or less moved on to "single camera" sitcoms sans studio audiences, I was not expecting to enjoy a traditional format sitcom as much.
Liberalynn
(7,549 posts)Good traditional sitcoms are few and far between.
Tommy_Carcetti
(43,145 posts)They have to be good in spite of the studio audience laughter. The jokes have to be funny enough that you are able to forget about the canned laughter in the background. Otherwise, it just comes off as forced and pathetic, listening to people laugh at unfunny jokes. My wife watches that awful CBS sitcom "Two Broke Girls", and whenever I've seen it, I'm just amazed at how lame the jokes are compared to all the riproaring studio laughter.
The only three traditional sitcoms over the past 20-25 years I've truly enjoyed have been Seinfeld, King of Queens, and The Big Bang Theory. Everybody Loves Raymond is borderline.
suninvited
(4,616 posts)I never could get into Friends or Raymond. I find nothing funny at all about Two Broke Girls, but my daughter enjoys it.
Big Bang is the first Chuck Lorre production I have liked, I never could watch Three and Half Men.
I recently heard an interview with Jim Parsons in which he tells of his agent first calling him with the news of an audition for a Chuck Lorre show. Parsons said he had never heard of Lorre and misunderstood his agent to be saying a Chuck WOOLERY (the game show guy) production. Parsons thought, well, I didnt even know that Chuck Woolery DID sitcoms. He was at the audition and introduced to Chuck Lorre when he finally realized it wasnt Chuck Woolery at all.
I love Big Bang now, but never even saw an episode before six months ago. I caught up quickly, except for the current season, which isnt in reruns yet.

It's such a good show, it hits a good balance and the cast has great chemistry. I stumbled upon in TBS reruns and will always watch it when it is on. I'm not a person to sit down and watch primetime TV, so I appreciate the reruns.
It's a great concept, and it is nice to see they had/have and endgame. (unlike another Chuck Lorre show

(21,020 posts)I missed it when it was originally on TV, but last summer I decided to watch "That 70's Show" on Netflix.
OMG!
The writing is awesome. Funny as hell. I could never guess which way the dialogue would go.
Of course, it might be funnier to someone who actually lived through the 70s than to a younger person, but who knows...
Anyway, my very favorite character on the show was "Leo", played by Tommy Chong. OK, anybody familiar with him (and Cheech Marin) now has an idea of who/what his character is...

(11,902 posts)and then find out it was only on for 1 or 2 seasons -- like "Trauma". It probably didn't last because it was rather gory in a real-life sort of way, even moreso than the ER reality shows and Chicago Fire. I watch them on Hulu since I can't seem to control the remote for either TV in our house when both my son and husband are home.
I love Chicago Fire and have alternated that with Chicago PD. I've always loved shows about emergency personnel (my dad was a fireman and captain of the local ambulance crew when I was growing up). When I was a kid, "Emergency" was on, and I loved watching that.
I had no idea that the Captain (Eamonn Walker) and Casey (Jesse Spencer) were British and Australian. I was so surprised when I heard them speaking in an interview. Looks like they have a lot of fun and get along well. Also, if you like Taylor Kinney (Severide on CF) he was also on Trauma as a probie paramedic. Just Googled him to get the spelling of Severide, and had no idea he was dating Lady Gaga.
So much for my temporary diversion. Guess I gotta get back to real work
Liberalynn
(7,549 posts)about the actors playing the Captain and Casey being British and Australian. Thanks for the information on Taylor Kinney being in Trauma. I am going to have to see if Amazon Prime has it to download. That's cool about him dating Lady Gaga. I also found out he was in an episode of Castle's 4th season.
Those shows like Emergency were great. My Dad was a volunteer fireman so I watched them too. Did you catch the short lived "Saved" on TNT with Tom Everett Scott? Loved that show and was so mad they cancelled it after one season. It was about Paramedics too.
