My Dentist's Office Sent Me Flowers

As some of you already know from other posts, I got hives back in January. The dentist told me when I called to cancel an appointment because the hives were really bad that day that it might be best to postpone any dental work until it can be determined that it would not exacerbate any condition that the hives are a symptom of. It's been several months now.

So I called them this morning and left a message to let them know that I had not forgotten them and still wanted to stay a patient but that I still have the hives pretty seriously and that I am to see an immunologist on Wednesday.

This afternoon a local florist delivery van pulls in. I was thinking he had the wrong address. Instead it was a beautiful floral arrangement for me from the dentist's office staff.

They said my message sounded like I had been through the wringer and they wanted to make me smile again!

I just can't get over how nice that was!

That's what the hygienist said when I called to say thanks. She said after I hung up from ordering I thought I hope flowers aren't her allergy trigger. Since they started in January and I didn't have any indoor bouquets then, I don't think it's them. I think I have something going on with my immune system and an unidentified infection some where.

I was getting hives off and on (not as serious as yours) and it went away after I stopped eating gluten (my GI doc had taken a blood test because of intestinal symptoms). Hives is NOT one of the typical signs of gluten sensitivity, but it was in my case. I hope your solution turns out to be as simple as mine was.

That was great that your doctor was able to diagnose the cause of your hives even though they weren't a typical symptom. A lady in the writer's group I belong to had her doctor tell her some sores she was getting on her arms were due to a gluten allergy. She went on a gluten free diet and she is getting better. I was tested for Celiac disease awhile back but the results were negative. The GI doc here did say my colonoscopy did show signs of the early stages of colitis, and I 'm wondering if there isn't a link? I have also been experiencing decreased appetite, weight loss, and nausea since this all began.

They are a really great group of ladies. The doctor and her husband emigrated from Germany a number of years ago. She and all her staff are really kind. They even sent me a sympathy card when I had to put my dog to sleep.

Hives, had them really bad as a kid. Telling a kid in 1980 that he can't eat boxed Mac and cheese or drink cool aid is devastating. It was the dye that set me off. Red and yellow, can't remember which numbers. I got over it in a year though thankfully.

Hope you get an answer soon, hives are brutal.

9. That is good they found the cause.

From what the doctors I have seen so far have been telling me it's very hard to determine the cause of hives in the majority of cases.

I am lucky so far that the antihistamines have been keeping them somewhat in check. The doc I see Wenesday lists hives research as one of his major areas of study so I hope he can help.

17. I use to go to ER once or twice a year for hives.

Then my horse doctor(vet) told me he had the same problem and hated to use an Epi pen as you still need to go to the ER. He told me to ask my doc for a script for Diphenhydr AMINE injectable. It's injectable benadryl. Very easy to inject with a tiny needle in the hip. Has worked great for me and I haven't been to the ER in over 8 years. I take about .25ml, wait an hour and if not improved, do another .25ml.
You might ask your doc about it and he can have the nurse show you how. A friend of mine was very allergic to bee stings and always ended up in ER. She got a script for it and got stung by a hornet last year and it was the first time in her life she didn't have to go to the ER.

When the town sent a dog license renewal form for Maxie and I contacted them to let them know she had to be put down due to old age, the town clerk sent me a sympathy card.

Have you tried finding a problem with the things you use or eat? Swapping out detergents etc. for hypoallergenic stuff?

the allergist I saw had me try that. He had me using non allergenic detergents and soap, baking soda and peroxide toothpaste, going deodorant free, etc. I was still getting them. The only thing that helps is taking Zantac 75 milligrams twice a day.
