The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsSurgery Wednesday. Need some positive DU vibes.
So, last Monday I was working at an apt. complex, had just completed an interview, was walking across the courtyard when I tripped over a raised slab of concrete I never saw coming. Proceeded to go ass over tea kettle, and dislocated AND fractured my elbow. Anyway, have to have some screws and a plate put in to put LTH back together again. Thank the goddess it's covered by worker's comp as I don't have insurance. The surgery is Wed.
So . . . could use some of those positive DU vibes if you've got any to spare.
Thanks,
LTH

(26,602 posts)Which is why LTH wisely opted for an actual surgeon instead a bunch of people riding by.
Good luck! Hope it goes smoothly both in the surgery and the recovery...

(2,682 posts)The surgery will be painless -- just think of all those lovely drugs that were invented so we don't suffer pain unnecessarily. And I assume you will be doing some kind of physical therapy afterwards? Best wishes, kiddo, for a speedy recovery.

(50,983 posts)That arm was broken in four places but it didn't even register because of the other, really bad stuff. By the time the bad stuff was as good as it could get, the arm had been better for a long while.
I'm sorry you have to go through the helpless feeling. That can be worse than the pain. I'm still fairly helpless and limited after many years.

(5,790 posts)Get better. Do your PT religiously. When your arm is better, go to healthcare.gov and see if you can get hooked up with some insurance.

(15,800 posts)Mom fell and broke BOTH elbows. No surgery, but matching slings and lots of physical therapy. When she'd healed enough they suggested, of all things, bowling to strengthen her dominant arm. She took lessons, enjoyed it, joined a league, and got so good that Dad quit bowling with her (he liked to win now and then). That was 1967. She kept bowling until her trifocals made it too tricky. She'll be 95 this week, and still has her favorite bowling trophy. But we still get in trouble if we even say the word 'elbow'.
Hang in there!
