Last July, we had a thunderstorm with high winds sweep through the area. It totally trashed the screen and concession stand at our beloved drive-in.

The old screen was insured, but it was mounted on wooden towers. New building codes require steel towers. After the insurance came in, the owner was about $100,000 short of putting up a new screen. This isn't a wealthy community, but people in two counties got together to raise the money.
The Midway is back, Baby!

(I think that's a shot of the old screen, but you get the idea! )

A drive-in that's about 30 miles from here was mentioned on the local NPR news because a mini mall had been planned for the site, but the drive-in has been doing well so the owner is reconsidering.
