(21,046 posts)Lady Gaga has a much better voice and more talent than Madonna ever thought about having. Madonna has a mediocre voice.
I don't get the weird costumes on either Madonna or Lady Gaga. I'm just talking about what sounds good.
Oh, and I watched "Shanghai Surprise" with Madonna and Sean Penn. Lots of chases through the streets with jumping in rickshaws.
I never did get the plot straight.

(27,093 posts)I don't feel the need to choose or to compare one against the other.
I'll never love Gaga the way I do Madonna, after all, I've had a 30 year "relationship" with Madonna! But I admire her (Gaga) for her obvious talent and pro-LGBT stance (something Madonna pioneered decades earlier).
So, speaking as a hard-core Madonna fan, I'll certainly support you in acknowledging that "Shanghai Surprise" is a horrible movie.
One of Madonna's biggest weaknesses is her movie choices and belief that she's a great actress. She's not. She's a mediocre actress who makes terrible acting choices.

(95,337 posts)Come back to me when Lady Gaga has sold over 300 million records (the most of any woman in the world) and has been in the industry for over 30 years including a member of the Rock n Roll hall of Fame. When Lady Gaga gets to that point in her career we can compare the 2.
And I would suspect Lady Gaga would agree with me. Even she knows there is only one Madonna.
RiffRandell
(5,909 posts)Didn't you see her live a few years ago? I haven't...lame.
LynneSin
(95,337 posts)And yes I saw the MDNA tour. It was good but overpriced. But I wanted to see her once in concert. I just get tired of people trying to compare somebody relatively new as being better than Madonna. If this was about Mariah Carey or Beyoncé sure I can see the argument there those women have put out a lot of successful Albums, sold a lot of records. But Mariah Carey and Beyoncé have been doing it for over a decade where is Lady Gaga has really been out there for about for five years.
In the end there is only one Madonna nobody can compare to her she is a legend and she has the goods to prove it

(5,909 posts)So how was the show? Did you have good seats?
LynneSin
(95,337 posts)For Bruce Springsteen we got these seats on the side of the stage. In fact our seats were about 10 rows behind Governor Chris Christie, I kid you not. So yes the entire show we were looking at everyone's profile but you can't complain about that - we were still close to the stage and had a great view.
So when we saw the price for Madonna tickets we saw that the same section but about 5 rows back was half the price of the other seats in the front so we said 'why not'. We loved our seats for Bruce and figured they would be great for Madonna.
Ugh.
They sucked.
Bruce Springsteen does a concert. He and his band just gets on the stage and jams for 3 hours straight. Madonna does a show complete with countless prompts so we pretty much watched the entire show on this tiny TV display put on the side which well I could have saved the money and sat at home to watch that. What's worse - the opening act, some obnoxious DJ, played for over 90 minutes. No opening act plays that long unless the opening act is of the same stature as the main act. It was Madonna's first show in the states and she changed up some of the show and there were technical difficulties. So the show didn't start til almost 11am that night and it was a weeknight.
So it was probably one of the worst concerts I ever went to but it's because we went cheap on the tickets. Worst concert was Elton John at Bob in Newark Delaware. There I spent over an hour sitting on the end of a bleacher with half a butt-check on and half off. Luckily that ticket was free but the girl who bought them bought 4 tickets spread out all over the place so I wasn't even sitting with someone I knew and even worse I let someone else drive (someone who actually had a seat where she had a full seat and not stuck on the end of a bleacher). That show I ended up calling a cab to get me home.
RiffRandell
(5,909 posts)That's what sucks about big venues, although I've seen a lot of great shows in them like Green Day, Roger Waters, Floyd, Metallica, U2.
I'll have to think what the worst show was I ever went to.
When I was 15 I blew my knee out at a Ramones show (literally it was on the other side of my leg), lost my friends, ended up in an ambulance and my parents had to get me but they were totally cool and I was high as a kite from the drugs they shot me up with to twist it back in place. The show was great until that happened....then a few years later I met them.

(23,340 posts)Not that I like either one, but LG basically a ripoff of Madonna's shtick. Only about 30 years late.

I have always felt that Madonna's coming around sort of killed the big career that I thought the much more talented Cyndi Lauper should have had. They both kind of covered the same ground but Madonna was all about sex and nothing else.

So being 80's today!
Coventina
(27,093 posts)And I think she's only gotten better over the years.
I think a lot of her recent work has been misconstrued by the media - starting with "American Life" which was vastly under-rated and misunderstood.
Anyway, here's an old one that remains fresh and powerful to this day:

(5,909 posts)Great dance tunes, and Crazy for You is one of my favorite love songs...if you're as old as me you may remember the 80's movie Vision Quest.
This was a later great dance tune; Ray of Light:

Yes, I remember Vision Quest, and I have the 45 of "Crazy for You"!
LOVE "Ray of Light" the song and the album.
Here's another one of my favorites from the 90s:

(5,909 posts)I wore out her first album; loved Borderline. Loved dancing to Get Into the Groove and my husband bought her greatest hits "for me"...yeah right. So funny about the 45...I belt out that tune when no one is home, haha; it's a great song to sing to.
He's a p-rocker/metal guy and he likes her too!
I'll also admit I sported neon and those rubber bracelets when I was around 12-14.
ETA: Her boyfriend in the Borderline video was HOT!
