A HERETIC I AM
(24,368 posts)I lived in Palmdale from late '01 through mid '04. I was about 2 miles or so straight north to the south gate of the PL 42 complex, right where LA Center is.
Edit: OK...that was confusing! I lived directly south of the gate where the FAA LA Center is, so a 2 mile drive north put me at that gate!
Ave R and 25th street East was where I lived

(53,339 posts)Quartz Hill (in Lancaster, but near the Palmdale line).
We weren't far apart when I lived over that way in Palmdale at that time. Probably about 20 blocks away.
A HERETIC I AM
(24,368 posts)Small world!
I had a love/hate relationship with Palmdale.
I loved the scenery the mountains provided - to see the clouds that climbed up from Santa Clarita and over Acton spill over the range south of town and dissipate. It was always so lovely.
Me and my ex had dogs AND cats and I loved the fact that we never saw a single flea. Not one. Ever.
I loved the fact that I could take the Vette out and be on some of the most interesting, twisty, up and down mountain roads inside ten minutes.
The hate bit I won't get into, suffice to say, when it became time to get out of California, I couldn't do it fast enough!

(53,339 posts)It's still a very red area. I've heard wingnuts refer to Palmdale as "Little Africa."
And when they redistricted we had only minor changes here, but moving a boundary a few blocks shifted me from McKeon's district to McCarthy's (when he was still Whip, before becoming Leader).
I grew up "down below," in the San Fernando Valley, and was never crazy about the hi dez. But when my mom passed, and after being away from CA for a lot of years, I felt the pull of family and came back in 2000. My late little brother was up in Lompoc and my older brother was here, in Rancho Vista.
I'm still not crazy about the area but I have a lot of friends here now and I'm involved in community and veteran projects, so it would be hard to leave.
I wish we'd met while you were here.
Keep on truckin'!
