(8,492 posts)I'm really looking forward to it. As a kid, probably 10 or so, I was obsessed by Houdini. Odd thing was/is, I've never liked magic.

Not much for him to chew on, so he will have to chew on the scenery (that's a term for bad acting).

(16,926 posts)but I have an indirect connection to Houdini. My grandfather sang in a Vaudeville act for a while and he and my grandmother toured with Houdini and Blackwell the magician at different times. Grandma used to tell me she and Beth Houdini became good friends and were stuck keeping each other company when the boys went drinking. There is a photo of them together somewhere along with many other ancient pictures. If the family member who has them can be convinced to dig them out of storage for copying, I'll post a couple here.

In Appleton, there is a school named for Houdini; there is no memorial to McCarthy (other than his gravestone).
