i've worked a booth at a highlands festival the last four or five years but hadn't heard from anyone and was losing hope that it would happen this year. got the call early last week and will now have a couple hundred extra bucks for the anniversary extravaganza we're planning for later in the month.

i also found out my bestie, who has been living in germany for nine years, is going to be out in late october

i am lucky to have such wonderful things to look forward to

Any luck this time next year I might make it to 3rd shift head twist tie operator at the bread company.

Just kidding, but my daughter's preschool starts back up tomorrow morning. 3 days a week I'll get a 3 hour break. Oh glory day, I may just read a book.....after I clean the house.

Next Monday, I'm moving my grandmother to the assisted living near my house; she's now eligible to be in that one. (Which means huge improvement since January.) once she moves, it's a 2 minute drive or 15 minute walk, and is on my way to my lab instead of 17 miles the other way.

Also, her retirement fund has fully recovered, so I'm not worried she'll run out of money anymore.

Also, the local jalapeños and anchos are in fine form this year. Exactly right heat, great flavor, and they're big enough to stuff well. (We had a wet year.)

front right bicuspid.

The dental assistant called me honey and sweetie and the dentist kept his promise that it would only hurt a little.

AND gave me a scrip for hydrocodone.

I've had much worse days.

There's still a $27,500 helicopter ride charge pending, but more than $600,000 has been paid out and my total out of pocket remains under $6,500.

Knock on wood.

While the post seems selfish, I think the bigger picture good news is that millions of other people have insurance who didn't have it before.

If I served as a test case to prove it works, I'll gladly take that!

That, and my girlfriend rocks and DU has been very good, lots of friends made through this site!

SKP is short for 'escapee', inspired by Barney Fife.
I came to NYC sight unseen for university and work, then got out before it became Disneyfied!

glad you're ok!

I'm doing good myself. No sweetie in my life, but learning to take better care of myself so I'm not so prone to make mistakes like I have in the past.

Meanwhile, I love my work, love my house, love my Shrimpy, love my friends and I'm a brand new Game of Thrones junkie. LOLOL!

My husband went to DragonCon and got home with no major problems. My Mom is doing good and life is OK.

Last year as of this date, the week before was horrendous. My father died after lots of family drama crap, we had to get Mom through the funeral, and two days after the funeral on the way to DragonCon my husband got in a wreck and totaled his car. One of those weeks from hell that life likes to dump on me periodically.

So to have nothing major go wrong this year is really, really good news!

NYC SKP, great news and thank goodness. Glad you're okay.

Plus all the healing, and jobs, and babies. Wonderful.

Steve, thanks for asking and I'm happy to be able to reply. I just finished painting the kitchen in an old house I was lucky enough to buy after moving 2,000+ miles. It was painted in primary colors: purple, red, orange and yellow. Now it's a lovely cream color.

And I have plumbing! For the first time in almost a year. What a blessing that is.

I'm so happy to be back on the interwebs and I hope to soon be posting in Good News, once I get moved in here.

Nice to see you all again.

24. finally got back in the saddle on Sunday...

My pony has had an extended vacation, ever since July started in mid-June and lasted almost through August. Every day that I wasn't working was either a deluge or horribly hot and muggy. Every single nice day I have been schedule to work. Every. Effing. One.

And suddenly I got a nice day off and had time to work her in and hop on for a ride. She was an angel!!!! So, so soft in the bridle. Everything we had been working on was right there for me.
Today I worked just half a day, so after I have some eats I'm going to walk the pups, muck out and then let her run and jump a bit. Then tomorrow I have a day off, so in morning I'll have my 2nd ride of the late summer/early fall season.

And tomorrow afternoon, if the weather holds, the pups and I will have our first beach day of the season.

Here's a little secret. The 1st 2 weeks of September are the *best* at the beach. The water is its absolute warmest. The kiddies are back and school and tourists gone home. In all likelihood, if the past is any indication, we will have the private beach in Lincolnville to ourselves. And since Lincolnville is the summer home of one of Obama's bffs, there's always the possibility of a sighting. Hasn't happened yet, but iirc he did vacation up here back ~08 or 09 or so...

Also, my oldest daughter was accepted to a very good Ophthalmology fellowship, and is flourishing there.

And, in a couple of months, my wife and I will have been married for 35 years.

Life is good.
