First 4D rollercoaster to open in Texas in 2015

BATMAN: The Ride features a massive, imposing, floating and twisting track frame, in which ride vehicles begin their journey by traveling up a 120-foot elevator-type lift before being released for their highly unusual sensory journey…including two beyond-vertical free falls, in addition to the six head-over-heels spins. Not only is BATMAN: The Ride the most exciting thrill ride in Six Flags Fiesta Texas history, it is currently not available anywhere else on the planet. This attraction, based on the comic, will offer a total immersion into the Batman storyline with numerous special effects including the world-famous Batmobile and Bat-Signal.

or something or other. A video was posted here in the Lounge a while back. Looked like the freakiest ride ever. The video was of the construction. It was maybe in Oklahoma or Missouri. I'd look it up but I can't remember how to spell it. I think it was set to open this summer.

But with the way the seats flip people upright even while the carriage is upside down, well, that's not the same as having your body held upside down for the duration of that part of the ride. So, G-forces are reduced, probably so your head doesn't pop

I imagine the engineers during testing, after looking at the crash test dummies: 'Uh okay, let's reduce the G-forces.'

that was done like a "history" of various circus rides. Only it was all CGI. One was like a trebuchet slingshot "ride." The moment I saw that one I knew it was all fake. If the sudden changes in direction didn't snap necks, it would have crushed the people at the very least.

The rest of the "rides" in the video were so bizarre that it was easy to tell it was faked.

I'm trying to remember, but I think the rocket sled used in the earlier days of the space program achieved G-forces either 8 or 15 Gs. Okay, looked it up, and I'm still aghast at what Col. John Stapp put himself through voluntarily: 46.2 Gs!

Actually, my mind refuses to grasp that number at all.

lived a long & happy life. Fascinating wiki entry, thanks. His working group coined the phrase Murphy's Law.

and laughing at "Stapp's Ironic Paradox"

Stapp is credited with creating Stapp's Law (or Stapp's Ironic Paradox) during his work on the project. It states "The universal aptitude for ineptitude makes any human accomplishment an incredible miracle."

I was surprised at how long he lived, too, what with all the physical damage he received. He accomplished quite a lot of good in his life

The name of that satanic coaster escapes me at the moment (but I know it wasn't the Rebel Yell, another famous KD coaster).

Apart from the seat, the interior of the car was all metal, no padding. I might have been able to live with that if it had not been for the multitude of exposed bolt ends that somehow had been left uncapped and unpadded.

By the time I dragged my bruised and battered body off that godforsaken ride I already knew...I'm too old for this shit! I can smilie about it now, but at the time I was a frowny camper.

gave me a similar feeling. It was pretty rickety. Old wood, loud noises, loose bolts, overall dread that you'll fly unhinged into the Atlantic Ocean. I mentioned it to an attendant who told me it heightens the scariness, lol.
