I really did not know they were the precursors of heavy metal.

I have discovered that in some of the old metal songs that there is intricate guitar playing that would not be out of place in Bach, but it's often surrounded by noise.
Specifically, Crazy Train (Black Sabbath) and Thunderstruck (AC/DC).
