https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/hoarding132-the-cat-explosionsThe group Colony Caregivers originally formed to try and help make a difference in the lives of feral and stray cats in Ontario County New York! They have done so by trapping, neutering/spaying, vaccinating, and returning the kitties. They are literally the only organization in our county willing to help with stray/feral cats.
Now they are being asked to handle some pretty serious hoarding situations with no help financially from the county. Our local Humane Society insists their mission is primarily to take in stray or surrendered dogs . They've taken in a few cats now and then but very few and from what I understand have washed their hands of these hoarding situations, and Lollipop Farm in Monroe County, the nearest major shelter, has their hands full with their own cases.
So basically the Colony Caregivers are these kittys' only hope and they are exhausting all their resources trying to deal with these hoarding cases. If you are able to send them even a small donation it would be greatly appreciated. The link to their emergency fund raising campaign is above and they are also eligible for and on Amazon Prime. They are a registered not for profit!
I am not a member of the group but they have been helping me with caring for and getting the feral cats living in my barn, spayed/ neutered, and vaccinated.
Thanks for reading!

(9,126 posts)I just trapped and spayed/neutered two cats today through Fix Nation in Los Angeles. It is very valuable work in an attempt to keep the feral population stable and help with all the homeless cats.
I wish Colony Caregivers the very best. If you have contact with them, they might try contacting Best Friends which is probably the largest animal charity in the US and supports smaller organizations. If they put their case, they might get the help they need.

(7,549 posts)Thank You too for helping to take care of cats.
I sent the CC a PM on Facebook to let them know about Best Friends.

(9,126 posts)Hopefully they can get some big help. PetSmart also underwrites animal charities as well. It's just so hard and resources get overwhelmed so quickly. But they really are doing what is best for animals. Keep us posted.

(7,549 posts)but it's all been used to fund the TNVR programs which was their original mission. Now the local authorities keep calling them in to help with these hoarding cases and any emergency situation involving cats without offering any support either with funding or facilities.
Up to this point they have had to depend on the willingness of Monroe County's agencies to save them a few of their spots when they do TNVR clinics.
I am proud of my dog's vet though he and his wife are the only local vets who will offer discounted medical care to the cats being helped by Colony Caregivers and are also spaying and neutering ferals at a reduced cost. He also joined CC and is on their board. I wish there were more vets like he and his wife who are willing to help. He is trying to recruit some of his interns.
I will keep you updated!
Thanks again!

(3,818 posts)I recently helped set up an amazon smile account for a volunteer organization I work with and they started getting donations immediately through the account. I'm curious to see how much they get since it was my idea!
I hope other people will switch to this charity or at least temporarily.

(7,549 posts)Habitat for Cats has offered to help by opening up a few more spots in their TNVR clinics to Colony Caregivers trappers. They have also have offered some financial assistance, not enough to cover all the hoarding situations but at least enough to complete one rescue project and start on a second.
