(204,025 posts)Three weeks ago, I rescued a kitten who had been hanging around a local supermarket where they're doing construction. According to my vet, he's male, was about seven weeks old, 2.6 lbs. He's also very active and, fortunately, healthy. Here he is with one of his new toys, hope he can cheer you up. We've been calling him Felix, since he's a wonderful, wonderful cat...

(50,983 posts)My kitty would love to play with your kitty.
This is a song I like.

(204,025 posts)As for my kitten, he would love to have a playmate. All he wants to do is run around and play and I keep giving him new toys (he seems to like those that jingle), but all he has is me to play with. I also have a dog, and he's just fine with other animals, but I think he's jealous of the kitten so they're not friends - yet.

(50,983 posts)Now our kitten has no one to play with except me, old tired boring daddy.

He misses his old stinky dog so bad. We had no idea he was so attached to the dog until she was gone.

(204,025 posts)I normally adopt older animals, have never once been disappointed, but losing them is just the worst thing. The dog I have now is an exception since he found me at five months old and just turned eight. I've mostly had dogs in my life, and have never had issues with them getting along, though I've never had a kitten before!
This is my dog, Jack:

(50,983 posts)I call my kitty a kitten because he is a perpetual kitten. Sometimes his face has the look of total innocence like a kitten. Then he is bad, lol.

(204,025 posts)It was a hernia which was repaired when he was neutered and it certainly never slowed him down, LOL. He was as active as a puppy as the kitten is now. I have usually adopted older animals, but they seem to find me.

(204,025 posts)The last thing I expected when I stopped at the supermarket to pick up a few things was to come home with a kitten!

(204,025 posts)I well remember your adorable pups. I still have my little dog Jack and now a busy kitten. When things look bleak, I can always count on them to make me smile.

(69,918 posts)even if he doesnt feel like sharing the bed with all the other pups, he kisses me goodnight, and cuddles up until i fall asleep.
they are pretty amazing dogs.

(204,025 posts)My dog expects to sleep on my bed and though he's not all that big, I find myself constantly moving over to make room for him, LOL. But I don't really mind...

(204,025 posts)During the summer, my dog has been getting down to sleep by the door, guess he's too warm. And I miss him.

but the other will get as close as they let her.

(204,025 posts)I have a friend with two rat terriers. When she adopted the second one, we took our dogs to doggy class together. They're also very smart. And cuddly.

(24,146 posts)but not you
i feel like there must be some lingering monkey thing that if a big male is killed, and he has a sick old widow, they chase her off into the jungle. that's the only way to explain the difference in old friends.
even without asking for anything yourself, you still go from a soft touch to a touch ask. and that changes things. or even further, a big debt lurking that they know it is time to pay.
divorce. just pure fun.

(135,425 posts)Throughout my life I've had to "divorce" myself from people owing to the requirements of my work. I know some people do that "keep in touch" thing but I just don't because my work was so damn time-consuming I knew I wouldn't be able to keep promises, so I didn't make them. It was a sad thing for me to do but I knew I just had to move forward so that's what I did. I always made new friends. It took awhile, some times, but eventually you find people who share your interests and goals.
I'm sure it's far more traumatic on a personal level to remake your life and set of friends but it can be done. Get out there and find better friends. And if you run into your old fair weather ones, smile big, fake enormous good cheer if you have to, radiate joy, leave them wondering what you're up to, and if they stuck with the wrong member of the team.
