I know that a jury will probably delete this post but I'm putting it up here because I don't think this community will humiliate me.
My son was in an accident about a year ago and passed away. I immediately put his things in storage and just recently was able to dig up the emotional courage to go through and sort them out.
Brad was gay, which was fine with me and the rest of his family. He also had a lot of sex toys that I found in storage, which is fine by me. That was his business.
What I don't know is how I should get rid of them. There are a couple boxes of them. It's not the kind of thing you hand to a garbage man or drop off at Goodwill.
I've cleaned and sterilized them all (that was a sight). It seems to be an expensive collection. Rather than bring them to the dump, I'd like to sell them and donate the money to PFLAG. I'm not trying to sell them here. I'm just wondering if anyone knows where I can.
Maybe this is pointless. But any information or ideas would be appreciated.

(68,644 posts)"Expensive collection" seems a relative term, and I suspect that the real value her is that they were your son's property.
I can't blame you if you're averse to just kind of concealing them in the trash, or the neighbor's trash, or one at a time at the local Chic Fil A trash.
Goodwill is just out of the question.
I would put them in general pick up, maybe over a period of a few pickups, in plain bags and mixed up with general refuse.
Don't feel shame, shame is a product of "community values" not real values.
Bless you and take care.
and you are probably right. Thank you for responding.

Except, I might just drop them w/Goodwill. Sometimes I get this nasty streak...

(12,647 posts)Not only because it's painful to throw away a collection that apparently meant something to a lost loved one, but if some of the items are vintage, they might be worth something to a collector of such items. I've discovered over the years that there is a market for pretty much anything, if you know where to look.
My only thought would be if there an "adult" store in town you might not be to squigged out to walk into, you may want to ask them if they know of a collector who might be interested in actual vintage items, or how to otherwise dispose of them. (20 years ago, I had a temporary rent-mate who worked behind camera in the gay porn business and in an adult novelty shop, and some of the stories he could tell...) There may be a market for used sex toys, if they have been sanitized and are in decent condition.
Good luck, and maybe one of the lounge residents who are more familiar with the kinkier side of town might have a good suggestion.

(221 posts)I suspect there is a market but I don't know where to find it. That's a good lead.

(4,412 posts)I think the suggestion of slowly tossing them over a period of weeks is you best option. If you have any male gay friends you might want to check it with them.

(2,190 posts)If we are talking about used sex toys, then no I don't think so, but if we are talking about kinda artifact old dildos then I think there is a market. What do you mean by antique?
I am so immature I still can't believe I just typed dildo.

(37,457 posts)I don't know if you're allowed to sell those there, to be on the safe side, but worth checking out. They sell almost anything there, as long as it's not illegal.

(37,457 posts)Half-baked thought, if you offered a discount and stated upfront the disinfection fact, you might be able to sell.
