Bridport

Bridport, Dorset was known since the middle ages for ropemaking. Bridport's main street was built particularly wide for use in drying ropes that were spun in long gardens behind the houses. Ropes for gallows were made in Bridport so the phrase "stabbed with a Bridport dagger" became another was of saying "hanged".
