The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsMaybe I should have called him an idiot.
Maybe then my thread about an AMAZING kid who took a horrific moment (when his family kicked him out and ASSAULTED HIM for being gay) and turned it into a positive thing by getting the internet to donate to help other homeless LGBT youth would be getting more than 400 views.

I love DU but the ease with which the good stories slip through the cracks here can be depressing.
And no, I don't think he is an idiot; honestly, I want to adopt him, but admit it: did you click on this thread because of the subject line?
Somebody cheer me up, please. My faith in humanity is having a cynical.

I worry for this board, so many good members gone.
Thank you for posting!

(8,492 posts)I have little time to spend on DU, so I always scan the first 20-30 posts in Latest Threads and then go back to work. I miss so freakin' much that way. One thing that used to help was the "Friend" list. I've requested a couple of times that it be brought back, but apparently others were using it to stalk members they didn't like.
It is a great thread and should definitely have received more attention. One thing though, you're correct that if you had called him an idiot it would have gotten far more views. Someone would have alerted (without actually reading the post) and there's a 50% chance it would have been hidden (because some juries can be sarcasm impaired).
Controversial subject lines get more attention than nice ones.
We seem to love a good flame fest!
