The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsI need to find another home page.
Generally, I use google as a quick thing, which is good, I don't have a problem with them.
However, Yahoo and MSN has messed around with their format, that it makes me dizzy.
The load time is screwy, and I get that there is increased mobilization of formats, but for desktops it just doesn't work.
It is like using a huge screen that blasts you with pictures to try to make sense of.
The navigation then becomes a pain.
Sorry...
I just saw the MSN preview page, and my design sensibilities got upset.

You know what's sad?
As soon as I clicked on www.calm.com - I automatically thought there must be a trick to this and went directly to view the source.
I keep failing the Do nothing for 2 minutes. I can't even last 30 seconds.

(8,333 posts)I use http://www.ighome.com
create an account and customize the page. I add rss feeds for blogs I follow -- those appear as square blocks. That way, i can check for interesting new entries whenever i go to the home page.
Like it a lot.

My homepage doesn't use anything more complicated than HTML 3 and works well on any internet device, from old "dumb" text only terminals to modern smart phones.
I'm a great believer in the Keep it Simple Stupid (KISS) engineering philosophy because I'm often stupid.

Both have nice pictures that change daily, no frenetic jumping around or anything that needs a lot of attention. Usually I read the blurb about the picture of the day, but if I'm not in the mood, I don't have to. When I do read read their descriptions, I learn neat science.

(4,299 posts)StartPage, and its sister search engine Ixquick, are the only third-party certified search engines in the world that do not record your IP address or track your searches.
I use startpage as my default search engine but I use my own 20+ year-old home page with all my links.
