He was frustrated and stressed out," said the employee interviewed by Eater, "and he's the cook, so we can't run the restaurant without him. We closed up early, and he put up the sign." The shutdown protest only lasted until the next night, but clearly, he needed the evening off. I know annoying diners are bad (and give a bad name to people with actual allergies), but for the sake of everyone who likes authentic MSG-filled Chinese food noodle wings, you've got to stay open.

(68,644 posts)Not that yelp is reliable, but it is interesting.
Lots of recent reviews.

But I wouldn't use yelp without a lot of skepticism, I just looked up an estate sale management business that I think screwed us and they had two reviews.
One review was positive, the other review was hidden but described in detail all the same shitty things they did to us.

If a restaurant doesn't clearly advertise itself as being "gluten-free" or "organic", then it's probably safe to assume that it's NOT. Especially if it's Chinese. I eat that stuff because it's so tasty from all the bad crap in it.
Cream cheese spring rolls. Deep fried shrimp toast.
Now for the lazy...
If a person has a food allergy or sensitivity, do some research, either online, or by asking friends or family if they've ever gone to the place. Or call before heading there.

(78,249 posts)I never heard of such a thing. I wish I hadn't.
One of my favorites!
Very delicate spring roll pastry with a mixture of cream cheese and a bit of chopped crab meat rolled up inside of it, then deep fried to a light golden brown.
I suppose if someone doesn't like cream cheese all that much, it probably does sound sort of gross though.
I, OTOH, could eat cream cheese on everything.

(14,400 posts)it's usually put into a wonton wrapper and fried but it could be done with spring roll wrappers too.

(21,020 posts)One place that makes them puts it in a wrapper that looks like a large tortellini, whereas the spring rolls look like small egg rolls.
The crab rangoons are fried to a crispier golden brown.
Then, of course, we got the steamed dumplings...
mmmmm...
gotta go out tomorrow for a couple of appointments. Maybe a side trip to the Tung Shing Dragon is in order.

(2,983 posts)I've worked for restaurants before, so I guess I understand their frustration. It's not just the "I need organic, gluten free, dairy free, sugar free, no MSG..." I'm sure most restaurants would put up with that as specific requests from customers - if they had the food types available. It's the constant whining and complaining that eventually frustrates many restaurant workers well past the point of their patience. "OMG, I had to wait FORTY MINUTES for my steak, mashed potatoes and gravy, and corn and my wife's three course meal and my kids chicken fingers and...... WTF is wrong with you people?!?" Even when the place is completely full and you've got two cooks on duty. Then there's the ones that actually eat the food, then refuse to pay because they complain it was stale, too hard, too soft, too salty, not salty enough.
Annoyed, annoying customers annoy staff, which causes frustration in the work place, which eventually reaches the cook, manager, owner, and so on.
I think a little more consideration - better manners, and a little patience would go a long way. I don't care what kind of food people want, just don't be an ass to the staff. If you're going to eat something, pay for it. If they don't have what you want, go somewhere else. If the food takes too long for you, consider that cooking a decent meal takes a little bit of time, and in a busy restaurant, it can take more time. Unless you're charged for food you didn't eat, are served the wrong food, or deliberately insulted or mistreated by staff, all of the whining is kind of unnecessary and makes wait staff and cooks and stress every time they hear you're coming.
Manners, patience. Also - on the part of these owners... they are being even bigger idiots/babies than the customers they're complaining about. It's a fact of life that people will complain and piss and moan. Be courteous, employ security when necessary, and do whatever you can to satisfy your customers. If that's not enough, if shit happens that you can't control? Shrug it off, take a deep breath, and remember that shit happens - as long as it's not in the food, you should be okay.
