(38,449 posts)Why?
We..in the USA are addicted to the wrong foods..high in fat, salt and sugar..
We start eating them, and we cannot stop....end of rant...

(23,340 posts)It is about total calorie consumption. Consuming more calories than the body needs to function results in the excess calories being stored as fat.
That said, it is much better to eat healthy foods in moderate amounts, and exercise.

Is a dangerous cheese addiction making Kim Jong-un seriously ill?
North Korea's demented despot dictator is reportedly ballooning in weight after getting hooked on Emmental, a cheese produced in Switzerland.
The 31-year-old is said to be importing huge quantities of the savory Swiss treat which he first discovered while studying in the European country as a child.

(25,676 posts)This changes everything. Emmental is the best cheese. Firm, nutty, savory. The only thing stopping me from going through life as a demented despot cheese addict-dictator-balloon is that where I live, a tiny block of the heavenly Swiss dairy delight costs more cash money than I care to spend. Emmental sounds like Neanderthal. Coincidence? I think not.

And it's just not the burger joints either.
People gain weight for a lot of reasons. Some bad habits. Some medical conditions cane cause weight gain.

(46,356 posts)If a restaurant can't compete with quality, they'll go with speed, like McD's does.
Or they will pile on the calories, looking for the big eaters.
And it sure does look like Hardee's is doing the latter.

(18,482 posts)People have searched and experimented for years for the perfect burger topping. Cheese, onion, pickle... here in the US we've discovered that the best thing to put on top of a burger is...another burger!

(1,070 posts)On average, the activities we are most likely to spend our time on take much less physical energy than they did for the rest of human evolution, so naturally it is now much easier for us to pack on fat. Combined with an endless supply of foods that are rich in sugar and fat, obesity was bound to become a problem.
