in the 1940s and living in Tokyo, some of the playgrounds we went to had rough wooden slides. Ouch. My sister and I still used them, though. We ran or duck-walked down them instead of sliding.

One of my retirement schemes was to open a museum of forbidden playground equipment with all the fun things kids can't have anymore like swings, see-saws and merry-go-rounds. My father built a huge swing set. We used to put a ladder on one of the swings and have a swinging, spinning see-saw. That was fun.
