Green Day, Nine Inch Nails, N.W.A, the Smiths, Lou Reed and Sting have been nominated for the Hall's next class

The nominees for the 2015 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame are in, and for the third consecutive year, the public gets to vote alongside the artists, historians and music industry insiders of the Rock Hall voting body. From now until December 9th, fans can vote right here for the nominees they'd like to see inducted. The top five acts will comprise a "fan's ballot" that will count as one of the more than 700 ballots that determine the Class of 2015.
As Rolling Stone first reported, nominees for the Hall's next class include Green Day, Nine Inch Nails, N.W.A, the Smiths, Lou Reed, Sting, the Paul Butterfield Blues Band, Kraftwerk, Chic, Joan Jett & the Blackhearts, the Marvelettes, the Spinners, Stevie Ray Vaughan, War and Bill Withers.
In order to be eligible for this years ballot, artists or bands need to have released their first single or album in 1989 or earlier.

(14,400 posts)has to start whining about the newest crop of nominees. It's just an online popularity contest but somebody has to take it too seriously.
I guess you get to start the ball rolling this time around but protocol indicates that you at least provide a replacement for "the worst nominee in the history of the world" please.

Trent has altered the landscape for rock music ... His music continues to inspire musicians everywhere ...
Not a big fan of the haters ...

(100,061 posts)I've seen NIN in concert at least six or seven times and Trent gets better and better with each show. The 2014 tour with Soundgarden was amazing, the 2008 Lights In The Sky tour was one of the most spectacular things ever put on stage.

(19,089 posts)Fucking incredible ... the stage lighting effects are legendary .. Fucking epic ...
The Hesitation Marks concert showed a different side of Trent, with more traditional influences, from jazz, blues and even gospel coloring the new songs ... it was superb ...

(100,061 posts)I went to the LA, Vegas, and Sacramento shows (glad I live in an area where I have easy access to Southwest Airlines). There's videos on YouTube but the videos just don't do it justice.

(17,184 posts)Not unlike some other Halls of Fame. Not everyone gets in on his merits; not everyone who merits it gets in.

(6,261 posts)I was a big Kraftwerk fan in the seventies - the only one I knew, everybody else hated them - and you can't deny their influence, but do they really belong in the Rock & Roll HoF?
I don't really care for HoFs in any case.

(20,176 posts)there is no real argument about merit.
Reznor's merit is vastly greater than theirs...I'm not arguing that he belongs in the RRHoF, but if he doesn't belong there, then they really don't. I mean...fuck, why not just admit the Jonas Brothers, Debbie Gibson, Justin Bieber, and Dexy's Midnight Runners already and get it over with if we're going to let in every high-selling low-talent popular music act of the past 30 years regardless of talent or merit?

(78,249 posts)It's "Dexys Midnight Runners". No apostrophe. And how dare you compare them to the JoBros, Debbie Gibson, and Bieber? Let alone comparing Rush to KISS?!

(6,286 posts)if not, my apologies. If so, my word, they've been eligible since 1998 and have one of the most consistent catalogs out there. Not to mention they are some of the most proficient musicians to ever pick up their instruments. Not sure what else would be required to be considered for induction.
(now KISS I somewhat understand, they're better marketers than musicians. But even their imprint on the genre is undeniable)

(20,176 posts)Rush was at one point a hot topic of the Lounge because there are/were some posters here who believe that they're better than the Beatles and a nearly equal number of posters whose hatred for Geddy Lee, Neil Peart and Alex Lifeson is exceeded only by their hatred for Dick Cheney. There is also one poster who felt the need to bemoan that KISS was way more deserving of induction than Rush.
I was, to be honest, stirring the shit for my own amusement trying to start a Rush war. It didn't work, going to show the old comedic adage: "Always know your room."
