Why of why..............
I stopped in the local Rite-Aid tonight to get some cough syrup. My allergies are so bad, I've developed an evil cough. I bought a small bottle of Rite-Aid's brand of Adult tussin cough and chest congestion DM, non-drowsy and alcohol free. I also purchased a bottle of shampoo and a muffin for breakfast.
The cashier scans the items and then asks me for my ID, I said for what & he points to the cough syrup. I said "absolutely not, if you want a birth date make one up". I further stated "If it's on the shelf available for ready purchase (not having to go to the pharmacy to get it) then there's absolutely no reason for my ID". The cashier put in some imaginary birth date and I took the cough syrup home. FYI, I'm 2 years short of 60.

3. More drug law nuttiness...
People have been getting high from cough syrup for years (codeine, pertussin, DXM...) and using it to make other stuff to get high. So, we make it tougher to get cough syrup.
But, have you seen my miracle cough cure posts? Vick's Vapo Rub smeared on the soles of your feet works. I thought it was nuts, but I mentioned it to one of the nurses at the VA hospital and she said everyone up there tried it. Then I tried it when I got a bad dry cough. It does work-- the theory is that it is absorbed faster through your feet than your chest. Just wear heavy socks so you don't make a mess on the floor. BTW, I use Rite-Aid's generic version and it works just fine. |

you and i are close to the same age & i was carded too
let me know how the vicks worked on the feet. that's kinda weird but i vaguely remember people would put these patch things on their soles to get the toxins out of their body--so i'm curious to hear about the vicks. hope you're feeling better. |

12. I bought ice and beer and was carded at Rite-Aid.
I'm mid-sixties and I asked the clerk if she was kidding. She said they had been told to ID everyone. I heard the same thing about Target's pharmacies.

13. Common sense out the window............
Clerks aren't allowed to use their common sense any more. I would like to see them try to deny someone say 16 or 17 from buying the cough syrup. There is no law that disallows them from purchasing it, so Rite-Aid can't deny them the purchase. This is just one fucked up world.
