So I've taken to wearing kilts on Fridays

It's been generally well received and it's kinda fun on the Metro.

Given the poll list, vote for the temperature below which I should not wear it for fear of damaging, shall we say, the dangly bits. I've worn one at 45F and it was a tad brisk.

7. All newbies in the Lounge must post a selfie in a kilt

It's a tradition, though it now applies every day of the week, not just on Friday. Didn't you read the Lounge SOP?

12. Well ok, not really the Friday attire

But this is one I have available on the net at the moment. Friday's are much less formal, with colored hose and regular shoes instead of the ghillies.

15. so cool! thanks!

I am pretty sure my oldest son would be up for a kilt. There is even some heritage involved, though I don't know as much about that side of the family as I should.

6. I'm not worried about the thrinkage so much

It's the thawage that can be painful.

13. Sorry Ellen

Oh yeah on METRO! I take the bus to Shady Grove, then the red line all the way downtown, transfer and then LeEnfant Plaza.

14. Oh MAN!

Quite a commute! I lived near l'enfant, when I first moved to DC, and often WALKED across the Mall to my office at 12th + Constitution.

You have a LONG ride on a chilly day! Today's 'civilized,' tomorrow less so.

9. Love a man in a Kilt!

but...
"People should not be browbeaten into believing that nonsense. Just because Highlanders wore nothing in the days before Y-fronts were invented doesn't mean that we, in the 21st Century, should wear nothing too.

"Sending children up chimneys is traditional too, but we don't do it now and the same should apply to wearing nothing under a kilt..."

11. I'd go into the 30s with a full 8 yard kilt

made of 16oz wool.* I routinely wear my 8 yard 13oz here in Florida and was plenty warm at the January Highland Games. (Not hard to be warm in Fl in Jan though lol).

I know guys from up north that just don't give a damn - they'll wear theirs any time. I've been in Fl toooooo long for that kind of shenanigans.

*Of course, I am assuming just going out to get in car and then go from car to inside somewhere. If I was out all day in 30something degrees I'd prolly be looking for a pub.

16. Question (maybe I missed it). Are you wearing anything under the kilts?

That would be a factor in what ever temp I would recommend.

18. true story

when I was 13 I lived in England - the Scots were in town for a football (soccer) game, and my best friend and I asked one of them on a double-decker what he had under his kilt - he started to lift it but then asked us how old we were - we claimed we were 16 (HE looked about 17 or 18) but he looked at us and said, I don't think so and declined to show us......still, that pretty much answered our question
