We are the same age so I do get the confusion....But one must have some personal standards and rules...Here are a few of mine.

RE - The Sequins: My general rule is they are fine at Christmas and for "fancy" events and dinners on cruise ships. It doesn't hurt to have one or two pieces in the back of the closet. Never wear to weddings or funerals.....then it becomes tacky.

Cats, puppies, butterflies....are all fine as long as you never set foot outside of the house wearing them. I do have an adorable purple corduroy barn jacket with a small patch of a horse on it. I love the jacket and wear it anyway. Rules are meant to be broken

There are a great many options now for the mature woman that don't make you look matronly. I shop the clearance at J Jill and Soft Surroundings. Cold Water Creek is gone now but they were also terrific. Lands End has great sales a few times a year and you can sometimes snag a great deal on their clearance.

If they will make you feel self-conscious and strange, choose something else. Otherwise, go for it.

You should wear whatever the heck you like. If you want to wear an outfit with sequined kittens on it, go for it! If it makes you feel good to be wearing it, then wear it. That's how individualism in fashion works.

I wear what I feel makes me look good, and thus I feel like I look good in. It's more about the color, cut and fabric than anything else in my experience. Chose a color you feel flatters your complexion. A cut you feel makes you hold your head high and say, "yeah, I look damn good in this outfit!" And lastly, a fabric you know will flow on your body in a way you feel comfortable in. No one feels their best in a sack if they love to show off their body, or an outfit that's clinging in an area they aren't comfortable showing off. That's it! That's all there is to fashion in the real world. If this includes sequins, kitties, puppies or butterflies, then that's just who you are and it's an amazing expression of your personality. Embrace it and flaunt it! Most people will respect you for being you, and anyone who doesn't shouldn't matter anyway.

Just have fun and don't let anyone else define what's right for you.

I adore their sport knit pants and drifter sweaters.

I kind of like that pink overcoat with the gathered collar I keep seeing in the ads here, but it doesn't look very warm.

i'm a big fan of the sweatshirt i can buy at cafepress with weird expressions, political statements, or quotes from the big bang theory on them. granted, i don't wear all of them in public, but i do live in them when i'm around the house
