The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsI just completed DU jury duty....
it was certainly more pleasant than the real jury duty! It was very easy to follow the instructions and complete the work and, I must say, it made me feel more of a part of DU and that is saying something since I've been here since 2001.

(14,275 posts)It involves everyone and it raised my awareness of what I post and whether it would offend others.

(59,147 posts)Mostly in the majority some not. just goes to show the system so far seems fair to all.

(19,288 posts)Makes me feel like a part of the community. I was always afraid to volunteer as a mod because my computer skills are minimal. I can be on a jury from my phone.

(95,337 posts)I do take the time to read the posts leading up to the post in question and felt the poster was really just responding to the OP.
Oh well

(39,886 posts)I didn't even get to stick around long enough to read three month old magazines (one of the perks of real jury duty).
Finally I was chosen, and I agree, it wasn't all that bad even if I considered the two events I helped adjudicate on were, well, frivolous. Acquittal. Justice was served.

(37,540 posts)I don't know if that was the intent, but it does seem to be the result.

(2,243 posts)The latest one I felt I had to turn back, since I don't know much about the argument being acted out.
But, yeah. I wonder if my phone is slow to accept or if it is the mobile code.

(65,911 posts)I voted once to hide and once to leave it. A few other times I was selected, but I was too late or the software accidentally selected too many jurors.

(660 posts)I just joined DU 2 days ago, no star and made two posts... rec'ed a few and BAM! Jury duty. So I did my patriotic duty and it was an iffy case.. turned out I was in majority and felt a bit more a part of the community. Prolly a good thing eh?
redqueen
(115,186 posts)I alerted on a post which was voted 4-2 to leave it... but two of the votes seemed to indicate that the people voting thought the post should be edited or that it shouldn't actually be left there.
So that was weird.

(22,298 posts)I'm hoping the admins pay attention to the feedback the jurors are leaving. In the first case, we all voted to kill the post. In the 2nd, it was split decision, with the majority voting to leave the post alone.

(4,507 posts)I declined because I couldn't find any instructions with several fairly obvious search strings.

(44,557 posts)I'm teasing, but in fact the instructions are shown to jurors once you accept to serve. Then you are given an opportunity to continue or decline.

I like the system a lot

(20,564 posts)enough is enough, i found the switch to turn it off -- if i'd been asked 14 times i'd really feel pestered
both posts i was asked to judge were completely innocuous and i think it's too easy to send something to a jury that shouldn't be there in the first place
